Winter Sun

In 1904, a boy by the name of Randall Moore

The week before young Moore would wed a thunderstorm, the sky like lead
The powder monkey cursed the rain and blessed the subterraneans
At the face the deputy checked the sound with his bar and said to bring it down
There’s a day’s work there boys, twenty tonne, nobody can stop you now 
But all around the busting stone did cause the props and baulks to groan
The whole damned lot was on the creep nobody can stop it now boys

Tin Tabernacle was inspired by a ramshackle rusty old building in the centre of Dunsdale village (St Oswald's Chapel). Dunsdale was once a mining community when the iron ore industry was booming on Teesside in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
In small mining villages you may spot these small chapels built with corrugated iron. These are called tin tabernacles and were put together by local communities, generally in the late nineteenth century. They were bought from a catalogue, arrived 'flat pack' and the villagers would work together to construct it giving them a meeting place and small church.

A little bluesy song about Ursula Sontheil, aka, Old Mother Shipton who was born in a cave beside the River Nidd in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire in the fifteenth century. The Dropping Well beside the cave turns objects to stone...
