Angel from Montgomery - John Prine
Prine is widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters. Sadly he died in April 2020 of Covid aged 73. This song was included in his first album called John Prine (1971). A version by Bonnie Raitt was included on her 1974 album Streetlights  became a major hit.

Steady Love

Stevie Windwood. 
This song first appeared on the Blind Faith album (1969), featuring Steve Winwood, (ex Traffic), Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker (Ex Cream), and Ric Grech (Ex Family). The group split after a few months, producing only the one album and a three-month long summer tour. I was attracted to the song by a version by Bonnie Raitt.

Old Habits Die Hard" is a song from the 2004 remake of the movie Alfie, with music by David Stewart and lyrics by Mick Jagger. It was performed by Jagger. It won the 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

Whistling Gipsy Rover Leo Maguire
This ballad was composed by Dublin songwriter Leo Maguire in the 1950s. It is the happy ending version of the traditional ‘Wraggle Taggle Gipsies’. It has been recorded by numerous artists, including The Corries, Carmel Quinn, The Kingston Trio, The Highwaymen (who had a minor hit single with the song), The Lime liters, The Seekers, Foster & Allen and The Wiggles. My own version is from the Clancy Brothers.

"Waterloo Sunset" was released by the Kinks in 1967. It was  written by Kinks frontman Ray Davies. It became one of his most acclaimed songs, ranked number 14 on the 2021 edition of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list
Speaking in 2010, Davies commented "I didn't think to make it about Waterloo, initially, but I realised the place was so very significant in my life. I was in St Thomas' Hospital when I was 13, I was really ill and the nurses would wheel me out on the balcony to look at the river” The two lovers in the song are named as Terry and Julie. When first released Davies joked it was  Terence Stamp and Julie Christie who were romantically linked at the time.  In 2008 he said  the song as "a fantasy about my sister going off with her boyfriend to a new world", referring to Rosy Davies, who moved to Australia in 1964.
