This bad ass selection has been constructed and finely tweaked by the mysterious CAL C  &KOOOL TY. Respectively, these two brothers work together for their custom *MODERN ART* outfit outta Ontario.  Diggin’ the crates for obscure 80’s speedy rap house with kickin’ 808’s, leftfield Canadian new wave, Italian library with a saucy twist, straight up BMORE club, Carib flavourings, and wasted 80’s Bollywood which has never sounded so fucking boss! #mrpatelbossman 
 
Huge props to the lads for going deep and bringing us this fresh new mega rarez mix at an exceptionally high calibre. Uptempo for the late nighters with loadsa mint drum sequencing, plus, additional jingles & delay unit added for good measure. Another mint addition to our series and hopefully getting plays for years to come!

MFM: Hi Dea, welcome to the series. How have you been lately? How are you spending your days in Bali?

DB: Hi!! Thanks for having me. I’m actually doing well, i’ve been living in Jakarta for the past 3 months. I moved to Jakarta in order to work in the music industry, which is more alive here, where in Bali 93% of the income are coming from  tourism.

MFM: I assume dance floors in Indonesia have been closed for a while too, right? As a resident of Potato Head, do you fear for what will become of nightlife after all this is over or do you extract positive energy from it too maybe?

DB: It is pretty much dead regarding club scene in Indonesia, but there are still nightclubs open illegally here and there. I don’t want to think about too much, I just hope the best for everyone who work or involve in anyway with this industry to survive this pandemic situation.

MFM: Can you tell a bit more about how you initially got involved in becoming a resident for Potato Head?

DB: It was all started on 2012, which is pretty much day 1 . Back then I was only a resident DJ and soon it progressed to managing their audio engineering thing, setting up all their music venues such as Studio Eksotika, Kaum Jakarta, etc, even involve in designing room acoustic for them. So pretty much I’m doing almost everything related to sound and music in that company. And the actually gave me a cool title as AUDIOPHILE DIRECTOR hahahahha..

MFM: You were a musician at that time too already, right? What's the balance like in between all those roles?

DB: I wouldn’t say I’m a musician, I do play instruments but I don’t consider myself as a musician. I see myself more as an audio engineer and a sound designer. DJing is not my main income, I did it just because of my obsession on collecting music in any physical form, and I like to share it to others. DJing is just one of many ways to do so. But yeah 70% of my income comes from music or audio work related.

MFM: Exactly one year ago your first release as part of Zatua came out via Second Circle, as result of a live improvisation of 4 members. What can you say about how the EP was recorded?

DB: It’s recorded live, I don’t use any samples. My role in the band is the rhythm section. I wrote most of the bass line, both acoustic and synth based. I also wrote melodies and ideas for pretty much everything.

MFM: It initially was never a planned project, correct? Now that the first release is a fact, do you have more future ideas and plans for it? 

DB: For now, I’m more focusing on working with my other band than Zatua. The band are called White Shoes and The Couples Company, it’s one of the biggest independent group here in Indonesia and I'm in charge of the production of their 3rd album, I wasn’t part of the group but I took full responsibility on their recording process. It's different from my usual style but its more applicable for Indonesia local market. I supposed to release 2 mini album of my solo project this year, but it got postponed because of the pandemic. For Zatua itself, hopefully we can record a new album by the end of the year.

MFM: Thanks a lot for sending in your contribution to our mix series. What can tell about the mix? 

DB: I’m just let it flow. I don’t think to much when I play records.

MFM Mix 021: Dea Barandana

Fresh up on Polifonic podcast series, it’s the young Italian selectors duo Eternal Love that have delivered a dance-floor oriented mix.
We use to imagine them digging in some lost vinyls shop in Brasil or having a late night ramen in Amsterdam, always chatting about music among other cool topics. This time their creative minds have made up a nice rhythmic selection perfect to shake your body: jumping on the couch is a very good option!
