Timeline represents a musical synthesis that combines various plucked (lute) traditions and techniques from the world over. This composition is an exploratory stage of the saz-guitar, one of Irwansyah Harahap's custom-made plucked instruments. The physical-material construction of 10-stringed saz-guitar combines a plucked guitar with a Turkish saz (baghlama). Structure of the music piece consists of four main parts; first, a saz-guitar takasim (free improvisation) part; second, 1st musical theme, "the timeline" (in 12/8); third, 2nd musical theme (in 7/8) with choruses and solo vocal followed by saz-guitar plays fixed improvisation while the fourth concludes the musical theme.

(Note: 2nd musical theme was taken from a piece entitled "Silang Bertaut Bunyi", from the 1st music album of Suarasama "Fajar di Atas Awan", 1998)

The first time I heard this song was in Danny McLewin's (Psychemagik) mix for Noise In My Head. Finally I found the track id a week ago. "Gumbira" which means in English is Happy, it's a Sundanese (West Java) language. This song was released in the 1960's. Enjoy!!

Krakatau - Saka Sada

One of my favourite musical ensemble from Indonesia. Suarasama group was formed around 1995 by Irwansyah Harahap and Rithaony Hutajulu which based in Medan city of North Sumatra, Indonesia. Both are teaching staff at the Ethnomusicology, their master degree in Ethnomusicology from University of Washington, Seattle, USA. Irwansyah Harahap as the main composer in the group, in his compositions has explored various different musical concepts and esthetic of world music such as African, Middle East, India, Sufi Pakistan, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, as well as North Sumatra (the Bataks and Malay) traditional music. Gamelan Orchestra of the Yogyakarta Royal Palace - Ladrang Liwung

This song is taken from their one and only album, "Kesepakatan Dalam Kepekatan". They put Balinese language as the lyrics in this song.  The album was released in 1976 and re-issued in 2006, led by Guruh Soekarno Putra, he is the youngest son of Indonesia's first President, Soekarno, from his third wife, Fatmawati. This band was consisting 6 members: Guruh (lyrics, piano, gamelan), Chrisye (vocal, bass),  Abadi Soesman (minimoog), Keenan Nasution (vocal, drums), Odink Nasution (guitar), Roni Harahap (piano, keyboard),  I Gusti Kompang Raka as guest player for Balinese gamelan, and The Hutahuruk Sisters provided female backing vocals. I might say this is a masterpiece album. Enjoy!!
