We welcome Bird of Paradise into the Join Our Club family. Another native Northerner brought up on steady diet of ‘And Also The Trees’ and ‘Underground Resistance.’ The EP opens with Fundamentals of Movement; an eerie track full of wide cinematic’s and ethnic drums.

Agent of the State is the sandwich filler on this EP, which drops the tempo even further but retains a solid super deep groove. To finish up Transporter kicks things up tempo wise, full of bendy synths and a darkroom techno bassline.

Spencer Kincy AKA Gemini recorded this mix for Boomtown Records of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada circa 1999(?). Spencer, as a producer and a DJ, had the innate ability to build soundscapes with deep, minimal, soulful tracks and also lay down some super heavy beats with a tribal/tech edge that would blow you away.  His catalogue of productions as well as his DJ sets were full of unexpected and transcendent moments of psychedelia, abstract dissonance, explosive volume, and full on freak outs. He was an enigma as an artist and has become a subject shrouded in mystery as a man. If you listen closely to this mix, I'm sure you can find some real insight into the musical spirit of this very inspirational and influential Chicago underground legend.

Honed by Giles Smith and James Priestly over the last sixteen years, Secretsundaze's organic growth from being a Sunday party to a fully fledged brand, label, booking agency and studio can be looked on as an evolution many dream of. Held in high esteem beyond their home ground in London, the pair have solidified themselves far beyond being just promoters over the years, with their DJing and production as artists reaching a point lauded by many. With regular appearances at Pickle Factory, Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson and a string of high-profile international dates in 2017, their schedule seems busier than ever. Their two labels continue to provide a platform for pushing talent with releases from Endian, Shanti Celeste, Fred P and Palms Trax, exhibiting the very best out of them. We caught up with Giles and James to discuss their progression as artists, a heavy touring schedule, all night long sets and their first long-time coming production as a pair. Their Truancy Volume, coming in at 197 in our series, is a strong representative of their style of DJing, with their usual emphasis on maintaining a solid groove being a focal point. Starting with the sweet sounds of the Detroit Escalator Company and moving to tracks throughout from Cassy, Glenn Underground, Wajeed and more, it's a sultry blend of vintage house rolling in at an hour and a half.

Since school friends Simon Lister and Peter Wilson became PEOPLE GET REAL, the duo have steadily gained a reputation amongst dance music’s elite as genuinely passionate DJs with a distinctly diverse musical taste which they bring to the party every time they play.

Over the past ten years they’ve brought this approach to clubs and parties across the world; from Japan’s Nakameguru district to regular bookings in Spain and France as well as annual soirées to Croatia to perform at both Hideout and Unknown Festival. Pairing this with their continuing residencies at Leeds up and coming Canal Mills and clubbing institution The Garden Party has further cemented their notoriety as DJs who understand how the dancefloor works and has seen them play alongside artists including; Ricardo Villalobos, Dixon, Jackmaster and many more.

Alongside their DJing schedule they continue with their production work with long-time studio collaborator John-Paul Denton. This musical output has brought them a new level of respect from some of the biggest names in modern dance music, including Tiga, Andrew Weatherall, Optimo, and a whole host of other forward thinking DJs and electronic artists.

Over the past 3 years their label “Join Our Club” has gone from strength to strength and has seen them release not only their own work but also music and remixes from Daniel Avery, John Tejada, Ivan Smagghe (It’s a Fine Line), and many more.
