LackLuster at Soundfood

The French imprint Melifera Records finishes the year in style with a four-tracker 'Atacama' EP by Secuencias Temporales and Space Textures affiliate, Eamo. 
This EP is a whole sensory experience in itself. If you close your eyes and let yourself go, a vast desert - as far as the eye can see - will present itself. 
Tatooine, defined by its pure bass and sprinkled with de-structured and luminous sounds, feels like a musical hush, putting an end to the tornado of emotions experienced until now. 
The EP is set for release on January 13th.

Atacama EP

PREMIERE: Eamo - Tatooine [Melifera Records]

In 1993/94 I made music with a guy named Max Vasquez or known then as Maxx Vaxx. He was already a well established musician and a well known badass at the trumpet, but he also was just a really really great all around musician who also knew how to use sequencing software, drum machines and synths. We made quite a few tracks together and two of them ended up becoming the very first music I released on vinyl and CD. They were on a sub label of Priority Records (Ice Cube's) label that failed miserably and quickly! I remember though the label boss calling us all to his studio to basically give us all the remaining copies of vinyl they had. Each artist was handed boxes and boxes of vinyl that didn't sell, but when he got to us he only had one box to give us! All of ours sold and listening back to this song I really feel we were onto something and actually the mix isn't totally shit! 

I thought it would be fun to share, so here it is an actual digital master of my first released track.

Music Medicine 019 - Iszabel

I first tried DJing in June of 1998, using a broken Technics 1200 and an unreliable belt drive turntable from a local thrift store. I wasn't competent until after picking up real 1200s a year later, but that summer was the departure point for the many twists and turns of my DJ life.

Now it's 25 years later. I have little to show in the way of fame or money, but I'm rich in friends, music and memories. I'm celebrating those loves in the best way I can, by sharing music from throughout the long, weird journey.

I'll be performing one livestream mix a month from January to June of 2023, then putting the live cut on Soundcloud a few days later. Some will be broadcast from my basement, some from live gigs, and some from who knows where? Each mix will cover distinct tempos and styles I've played over the years, all while maintaining the heady, melodic, sometimes dark vibes that characterize all my music.

I hope family, friends and fans join me for any or all of the 6+ mixes. The March edition centers my deep love for all things 303. Best be prepared for a wee bit of an acid onslaught.

DVO25- 3: Tune In, Turn On, Turn Up (in the end it's all just) Acid

MonkeyDuck is a bassy techno / tech house number featuring layered squelchy bass leads accompanied by some fun offset high sounds and percussion.  It has a super long breakdown (my longest one to date), but it makes up for it by being super building.  I feel like the idea, production value and transitions are pretty stellar, but it's still not totally complete.  It either needs a new lead or perhaps a little more variation in different areas, particularly the breakdown.  I'm putting it up on Soundcloud anyway so I can get some feedback and move on to other projects.  As always, I appreciate folks' input!

Tacoma, WA-based Devin Kelly (AKA Adlib) has been an unwavering techno activist for over 25 years. Whether it was through his beginnings in small town Idaho or his decade-plus residencies with the Shameless (Seattle) and Monkey Do (Los Angeles) DJ crews, he has long been a centerpiece of the regional dance music underground. His mixture of heady yet crowd rocking house and techno cuts earn him regular headlining spots at clubs, renegade parties and festival across the Western US and beyond. But he is best known for his co-creation of the legendary Esthetic Evolution music and arts festival and his long career as a political and community organizer. These backgrounds bring a sense of collective empowerment, resistance and celebration into all of his DJ sets and events. His newest project, “For Love and Struggle,” uses music, community and social commentary to bridge these worlds, because there are 33 revolutions on the turntable and one in the streets.
