Since the industrial revolution, experts say the way beef is produced and consumed in America has become damaging to both people’s health and the environment.

The solution found by environmentalists, nutrition experts and farmers alike is regenerative farming — a technique that restores livestock grazing to the way it was done before the industrial revolution. The benefits of this solution are explored in this episode, as well as potential challenges to implementing this change within a system that doesn’t support it.

Hear from Emily Ziedman, a certified nutritionist and nutrition researcher, Chris Doran, Religion Professor and founder of the Sustainability minor at Pepperdine, and Kacie Scherler, Pepperdine alum and regenerative farmer, in this exploration of solutions to consume beef in a way that benefits both people and the planet.

Welcome, this is Multicultural meanings: the segment where you learn about the terminology that pops up within your world and means the world to various cultures.

We open with four conversations discussing the word “queer,” featuring Kira Graves, Autumn Johnson, Prof. Darlene Rivas, and Prof. Frau Christina Wuttke. Kira Graves is a sophomore and a Psychology major. Autumn Johnson is a junior and a Film major and a Sustainability minor. Professor Darlene Rivas teaches United States and Latin American History at Pepperdine University for the past 25 years. Frau Christina Wuttke is a German Language and Culture professor and the current Academic Coordinator for the Heidelberg International Program.

We end with a quick dip into the history of the word “queer,” starting with its initial meaning and usage in 1513 and leading to the present day.

Multicultural Meanings: "Queer"

In this episode of "On The Other Hand" Sports editor Tony Gleason and guest collaborator Sarah Darwin debate over the perks and downfalls of their daily routines and how their sleep habits might play a role in that. Tony is a night owl while Sarah is a early bird, both debaters give us background on why their habits work for them and what their day to day might look like with their early bird and night owl schedules. While they might have different routines and schedules, only one can come out. Stick around to hear their arguments and see which fellow early bird or night owl is victorious.

SportsWaves S3E5: New Coach, New Athletic Director, New Era?

In September of 2023, Pepperdine broke ground on the Mountain at Mullin Park, a new addition to campus that will nclude, a new arena, rec center, dining and more when it is finished in 2026, but for now construction is ongoing

The project is the largest new addition to campus in more than two decades and has already had significant impacts on campus as construction is underway.
