Some V/As are dubious in their length, seeming to span both EP and mini-compilation length in equal measure, but not this one, which definitely seems to know what it's about. Moiss Music are no stranger to this format, here presenting their second vinyl release 'Watermelon Jam' after the first EP-length four tracker, 'Strawberry Jam'. Nu-disco, funk and house is the name of the game once again, and the tone is set by C Da Afro's 'That Funky Horn' via sample-filtering soul and raucous trumpets. The vocal cuts on this record are among its highlights; Disco Endeavours' 'So High' carries Brandy-esque chirps along a funking house backdrop, while the best of the bunch - 'Feelin's Mutual' by Pookie Knights - channels Carmen or Sylvester in its syrupy refrains and jet-set arps. Even a samba house bit closes it off - a swell all-rounder.

There are records that come along and change the musical landscape single-handedly: records that shift paradigms, push envelopes and rewrite rulebooks. Sometimes, though, it doesn't actually matter if you're not doing anything new or groundbreaking, just as long as you're doing what you do well. This two-tracker from Clean Is Good falls into the latter camp: the two disco/house fusions presented here do precisely nothing you haven't heard 1,000 times before, but just you try not dancing to them! A cheeky, familiar-sounding horns riff just nudges it for 'Midnight Joke' but both cuts are quality. If it ain't broke, etc...

Funk alert! Super proud here the Peppermint HQ to welcome Funkateer No.1 to the label, Bootsy Collins! This time Bootsy has teamed up with soul brother Chew Fu who is no stranger to Peppermint Jam as he already had a massive one with his amazing cover of Prince´s „Purple Rain“, sung by legend Steve Clisby, the main man at American Gypsy ( Inside out). The track was a solid favorite of Black Coffee. „Nothing but you" is a proper piece of funk and we just had to spice it up with some of the hottest names around for the remix: Art Of Tones, Cody Currie and Rodney Hunter, nothing more to say! Fun fact: Bootsy and Mousse T. go way back as they worked together on 2 of Bootsies albums in the past, Play with Bootsy and Fresh outta „P“ university. Check out „The mothership“, total bop!
