Primitive Equations (PEQ) – collaboration project of two “soundmen” German Popov (OMFO ) and Maxim Shaposhnikov (Dr. Goldfinger/ Orphologist). PEQ collects and works with anthropological and ethnographical data such as images, sound and artifacts, using them as a source for so called “research performance” which explores the archetypes of modern music and popular culture. PEQ is also a dj-vj team bringing to you old and new ethnic gems from around the world in a funky way.
Primitive Equations (PEQ) dj/vj sets feature traditional and ethnic sound as an alternative to the mainstream formula of world music. They spin records of non-western origin that were produced for the “local market” as well as field recordings captured by sound fetishists. Born and raised in the Soviet Empire both members of PEQ travelled and collected materials from all its corners. After moving to Amsterdam they re-pleated their treasure chests with finery from around the world. 
PEQ pays tribute to labels such as Inedit, King, Ocora, Smithonian Folkways, to cassette and radio culture. Genres like Central Asian electro-pop, Siberian funk, Azeri jazz from the USSR Melodiya record label archives are just a morsel in their vast audio-visual collection. PEQ dj’s are also explorers and travelers who transfer their public to the magnificent world of exotica. The “mixer & beamer” edits of documentaries, cult films, animation and field footage will turn your parlor into a time’n’space machine.
