Few producers understand the dark art of drum & bass as intimately or knowledgably as Basher. A consummate contributor to the RAM legacy for over seven years, he’s executed countless precision appearances across the label’s extended network. And right now he’s about to make his debut on the ever-consistent, next-level focussed Program imprint.

‘Trojan’ says it all. Even the title comes with heavyweight, dangerous connotations. Igniting with icy charm, Basher hurls us headfirst into an ocean of guttural bass and rolling concrete beats. Two low-end leads tightly twist and weave to create an enveloping sense of drama; savage distorted notes hammer his menacing message home while a creamy sub slopes and slithers beneath, tying up the elements to create the ultimate impact. Like the virus, ‘Trojan’ is instantly infectious; reprogramming your very understanding of groove mechanics.

Next up, ‘Weep’. Collaborating with Frankee, ‘Weep’ is a soundclash of significant proportions. Long-term friends, Basher played a hugely influential role in Frankee’s career, inspiring him to explore the studio in the first place. From the second you press play it’s clear the two complement each other perfectly; measured, moody and mesmerising, ‘Weep’ creatively uses tightly clipped vocal shots as percussive and melodic devices that build dynamically before the waves of bass and pneumatic beats sweep you off your feet. Brutal yet bouncy, furious yet funky, ‘Weep’ is a matchless example of contemporary D&B production.

Following a string of successful label releases in a short period of time, DLR is ready to unleash his debut solo album on Dispatch Recordings, entitled ‘Seeing Sounds’.

Having previously collaborated with Octane on the ‘Method In The Madness’ album, DLR has quickly established his own signature sound; an instantly recognizable groove mischievously poking through the mix, terrorizing dancefloors in a truly unique way.

As an album concept, ‘Seeing Sounds’ is DLR’s exploration into sound design and how the manipulation of organic elements and subtle soundscapes can create imagery within the music; to set the scene and immerse the listener up to a cinematic level.

Commencing this quest from abstract beginnings, DLR investigates over a selection of different formats and styles, ranging from the tantalizing neck snapper “Charlie Brown” to the sinister breakbeat nonchalance of “I Found Out”.

Inviting external influences to the fold; specially selected guests join the project to explore further, including Total Science, creating the cataclysmic “Control The Sound”, Hydro, the ambient chords and emotive vocal sample in ‘Empyreal” and partner in crime Break, resulting in the mighty, yet constrained “Human Error”.

Since Resident Advisor’s initial announcement, the album has garnered support from all corners, including Noisia, Friction (numerous Radio 1 plays), Goldie, Calyx & Teebee and The Upbeats, with Mixmag selecting it as their February ‘Album of the Month’. The early support from Friction on his BBC Radio 1 show also led to a special invite where DLR dropped an album mix in for live broadcast on the 13th of January.

With an innate understanding of the technology available and a shrewd willingness to exploit it, ‘Seeing Sounds’ is the culmination of DLR’s very best work to date.

FUCK ABOUT! co-founder & label manager @nomaddrumandbass makes a fierce and exciting return to the label this month with his single "Rundfunk / Staring at the Wall".

The UK born producer now lives in Berlin and has done for the past 2 years, in that time having soaked up the culture and history of his new home city, injecting heavy influence into his style & attitude. Inspired by the city's rugged aesthetic and thriving underground scenes, such themes are depicted in this weighty two track release. The "rough-around-the-edges' aura of his current place of residence has clearly made it's mark.

The A-side, "Rundfunk" is a breakbeat-fueled roller that pays homage to the origins of techstep, which moves into a choppy switch-up on the second drop. It's counterpart ,"Staring at the Wall" takes a more modern approach. Beginning with an enticing yet atmospheric intro, it soon transitions into a varied stepper with heinous low-end & funk driven saws rolling into a heavy halfway drop-down.
