A new mix of a track I first wrote over 20 years ago.

All of the sounds that are not obvious orchestral instruments were my own creation. The backing pad is a piano track that has been recorded at x8 speed, distorted (tube amp), stretched, put through additive synthesis and stretched back to 1x speed with paulstretch. Feel free to ask if you have questions.

The Deep

Fallen from the walls,

Memory's broken lens

A quick improvisation as inspired by St Ives, Cornwall.

The main things you can hear are a field recording of the waves on Porthgwidden Beach and a big synthmaster pad I made whilst in St Ives. Let me know if you want the preset file.

I had the perfect photo for this of my son's footprint on the beach the sun shining across it. Unfortunately I managed to wipe all the photos off my phone before they backed up. Only memories and the music are left.

No, the irony of that title isn't wasted on me.

This is probably going to be the first track on an album.
About 5 of the other tracks have been in a vague state of part written for damn ages now. We'll see if I ever get there.

The ducking of the piano is my poor beat up old interface slowly giving up the ghost. There's no compressor on it, it's just behaving like one for some unknown reason :(

All instrumentation by me except the railings, which were played by @Step5!

I mic'd up a set of metal railings in a children's park whilst Step played them using various sticks. I used 4 balanced piezo contact microphones merged into 2 channels and treated the result as a mid / sides recording.

The lead sound, that ended up sounding like a lonely steel drum is a simple synth that has been convolved by another sample of the railings with similar treatment.

I could have made this longer, but I think I like it how it is.

Lagrange is used on all the drone sounds and also on the horns and strings to create stereo width.

This Redoubt (Soundtrack)

A little piano cue perhaps for an emotional scene.
If it were a cliche it would be raining too.
Lagrange is used all over the place, lightly on the piano and also reversed in the lead into the bridge at ~45s

Said and Done

Dark orchestral.
Thunder sample was recorded from under a velux window, you can hear the rain landing on the glass.

Tension

This set of sounds from the surface of Mars were recorded by the microphone on the side of NASA’s Perseverance Rover on February 20, 2021. In the first set, sounds from the rover itself dominate. In the second set, the sound was filtered to make sounds from Mars more audible. You can hear a little wind in the second set. 
 
This is the first time a Mars rover has been equipped with a microphone. The images in this video were taken by Perseverance's Navigation Cameras, or Navcams, on the same day as the microphone sounds, Feb. 20, 2021.
