Kristian Jabs is one of Bristol’s favourite sons in the modern era of electronic music. As Pessimist, Boreal Massif and Soft Boi, Jabs has solidified his position as a leader of a generation of artists. 

In his latest carnation Jabs presents ‘Too Long’, a new 7 track album project under a new artist moniker of Stigma. Enlisting a prolific cast of collaborators in the form of L, Justin K. Broadrick (Godflesh, Napalm Death, JK Flesh), Taylor E Burch (Tropic Of Cancer, DVA Damas) and Karim Maas, Too Long clocks in at almost 40 minutes of personally reflective, intimately authentic cyber-noir-esque trip hop. 

Industrial anarcho breaks, syncopated sleaze, analogue call and response. Too long is a tale of texture, feel and tone. Unadulterated. Aiming to shine a light on the relationship between poverty and mental health issues in the UK, all proceeds from the album will be donated to Second Step Bristol, a charity dedicated to supporting people with mental health problems, gently acknowledging the possibilities for change.

"Alive In The Living Room - The Remixes" constitutes the second phase of the release "Alive in the Living Room - على قيد الحياة في غرفة القعدة" by Richie Culver.

In contrast to the original piece, where vocals were intentionally absent, simulating a state of sleep paralysis, and the lyrics confined solely to the written page, they find their voice in this rendition. Additionally, the sound mass comes to life in two distinct remixes crafted by Pessimist and bod [包家巷].

Perc - Exit (Pessimist Remix)

Following last year’s ‘Vitriol’ EP and ‘Otider’ album, SSTROM is back on Rösten with ‘Drenched’, 12 tracks for the floor, divided on 3 EPs, each to be released three weeks apart.

SSTROM is the project of Hannes Stenström, once part of Swedish band Slagsmålsklubben, and one half of enigmatic techno duo SHXCXCHCXSH (SHX). SSTROM’s output is explicitly immersive, relying on tense immediacy and spontaneity. The subtle 4x4 pulsations frame vivid narratives, rich layers of texture with lush harmonies surfacing from the warm and alien flow. 

On his ‘Otider’ LP SSTROM manifested a sonic diversity relating to his personal experiences and incorporated a diversity of genres and elements ranging from ‘90s rave to hints of minimal synth or outsider house melodic sensibility, yet everything carefully merged into a coherent whole.

On ‘Drenched’ SSTROM concretizes his ideas even further. The EP’s came to life after he broke his computer by spilling a drink on it. It forced him to try out different techniques of composing and recording. With limited ways of working, a more minimalistic form of expression emerged, based on very short but mind-bending harmonic structures and layered pulsations. The process proved to be very creative and resulted in these twelve tracks whose magic will work best on EP format and for the floor, nothing else.

Quest?onmarc contributes to CLUB CHAI with a six track EP titled ‘Phoenix’. Themes of duality, persistence and rebirth guide the listener through with sonic references to Grime, Jersey Club and Ballroom. Questonmarc’s subversion of regional club references are imbued with non western instrumentation such as Duduk and Dhol drums, carving out a narrative and sound that feels mellow, manic, and meditative all at once. ‘Phoenix’ encapsulates Quest?onmarc’s quintessential sound, effortlessly hybridizing seemingly disparate genres, colliding them and burning it down to birth something entirely new.

It was titled "They Live" and was a stellar showcase of the deep, pensive, thoughtful electronics that he has become best known for.
