In March 2023, deeply entrenched in my creative rhythm within the studio, I embarked on crafting the last tune, that ideally would surpass all other works on the album. Drawing my inspiration from a past experience sixteen years ago, where a singular musical vision for the last track made for the 'Free Cloud' album led to a remarkable composition in a day, 'Momentum', emerged after a more extended refinement period, yet with the same resolute clarity of auditory direction and flow, resulting in a harmonious fusion of grooves, synthesis, and sequences - in other words, a perfect finale to my album!

Momentum (Original Mix)

"Manifestation" stands out due to its recognizable elements: the infectious "Right Here, Right Now" sample, memorable melodies, and a repeating four-time 1-semitone note progression spanning 8 minutes. Unlike other well-known tracks in my Perfectly Strange discography, which have undergone multiple remixes, "Manifestation" had been reimagined only once by the duo Shanti & Deedrah. Although their version was commendable, my attachment remained with the original. This conviction led me to propose revitalizing the track to Liran Elkayam aka Sphera.

Our collaboration began in the summer of 2020, during a time when artists were primarily confined to their studios. After sharing the remix files, we encountered a creative block—a common challenge in the artistic process. Identifying and removing the problematic element, in our case, a bass pattern, proved crucial. The breakthrough came when I suggested transforming the ascending lead pattern into the bassline, an unconventional move in Psy Trance. Liran executed this idea impeccably, infusing new life into our work.

Yet, a feeling of incompleteness persisted. Liran introduced a transformative transposition of the bassline, inspired by a sample speech. This innovation elevated "Manifestation" from a good remix to an artistic statement, embracing elements of Acid House, psychedelic allure, moans, piano stabs, quirky riffs, synth growls, and a persistent groove. The piece concluded with the resonant Manifestation speech, culminating in the iconic "Right Here, Right Now." Thus, another piece of "Visionary Trance" came into existence.

In my creative journey as a producer, my fascination with unconventional sounds remains constant. I'm captivated by peculiar noise sequences and odd sonic phenomena that, when listened to carefully, craft their own narratives, forming organic grooves and unexpected melodies. My composition, "In The Creek," is a testament to this approach, with 90% of its foundation built on these enigmatic sonic explorations.

My music creation approach might be termed "sloppy," but for me, it is not necessarily a negative situation. I find joy in the raw, unrefined edges of my productions. I embrace the idea of elements slightly off the rhythmic grid, creating polyrhythms that infuse dancefloor experiences with delightful spontaneity. However, there's a delicate balance; too much can lead to chaos. Crafting a coherent piece from diverse noises requires meticulous attention, ensuring each component propels the track forward while maintaining cohesion. This contrasts with crafting melodic pieces rooted in discernible themes.

In The Creek (Original Mix)

I started working on this track in May 2019, amidst a creatively challenging phase in my life. Balancing parenthood and frequent international gigs left me overwhelmed, questioning my musical abilities compared to my past work like the Free Cloud album from 2007. The project faced hiatuses, notably during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, but was finally completed in September 2021. During this time, I revamped my studio setup, transitioning to new speakers from Amphion, a process that took years to fully refine.

The track's inspiration stemmed from a blend of emotions, including a desire to prove my creative prowess after a solo track hiatus since 2014. Using Arturia's Buchla synth emulation for the track's bassline, even though it is known for its instability, infused the composition with an unpredictable energy. In 2020, I crafted the track, integrating a poignant speech from Abraham Hicks, which defined the piece as what I call "Inspiring/Visionary Progressive Trance." This sample, discovered during my wife's kitchen sessions, marked the inception of the track's journey within my album, "Broadcasting & Receiving."

'The Door Part II' stands out as one of the more "ancient" compositions in the collection, tracing back to the year 1999. This saga began when BLT, a young producer immersed in Goa, Psy, and Progressive sounds, collaborated with DJ Nadi to create 'Space Boogie.' A snippet from a random film, capturing the resolute act of locking a door, was ingeniously incorporated into the composition, adding a unique rhythmic element. However, the track left a lingering feeling of incompleteness, a common sentiment among music producers driven by the pursuit of perfection.

Fast forward to 2015, I contemplated revisiting this old BLT composition. Despite having only a few audio samples and the rest in MIDI format, I embarked on the challenging task of recreating the track from scratch. Initially envisioning a Yuli Fershtat tech track, the project faced setbacks and was shelved. Amid the challenges of the pandemic, I abandoned my tech-inspired approach and elevated 'The Door Part II' to its current status. The creative process, not exclusive to the album, turned out to be one of my most demanding endeavors. My unwavering belief that every project deserves resolution guided me through this intricate construction, a principle that transcends time constraints.

The story of 'The Door' endures, spanning 24 years, representing the act of locking and unlocking. Its repetitive motif, symbolizing this action, maintains a sense of novelty despite its enduring nature – a phenomenon both refreshing and occasionally frustrating in its persistence.

Perfect Stranger is the stage name for California-based, Israeli electronic musician Yuli Fershtat. The Perfect Stranger project was created in February 2005 and within 2 years of its debut became critically acclaimed all over the globe. Perfect Stranger ultimately created his own sub-genre in the psychedelic scene by presenting a totally distinctive sound characterized by groovy playful beats and patiently built compositions that often bridge between progressive trance and techno with a presence of tribal and psychedelic elements.

Perfect Stranger has released 3 full artist albums, 3 remix albums, 3 compilations and appears on well over a hundred other releases (compilations, EPs, albums, etc.). He also owns & runs the “Digital Structures” label, where he publishes more tech-orientated sounds under the Yuli Fershtat moniker.
