1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection

I started DJing end of the 80ties, beginning of the 90ties. I solely DJed for the dancefloor and didn't DJ in bars before 2000. That turned out to be fun though, because I enjoy the freedom. I started out with Funk, which is still my favourite music style. In summary, nearly everything I play has to be funky in some way. That's the link, because I also have a strictly electronic alter ego (DJ Code). Over the time I have played in countless clubs and hosted a lot of parties, mainly in Hamburg, Germany. Since 10 years now I'm a resident DJ at the Le Fonque in Hamburg. I have also more or less always made music myself, with bands or as a producer.

When I started, vinyl was nothing special and I just stuck with it. Tell me a good reason not to?!! It has it's limitations of course, but I believe limitations further creativity. It's just the same in making music. In contrast to a lot of people I know, who have millions of music files on their computer and have completly lost track of what they have, I know my records. I have definitely heard every album and every 7" of my collection. I also like the biographical aspect of a record collection. I have hardly ever sold any of my records, which is why I'm very choosy when I buy. Because of this, in a sense, I can reconstruct my life music wise since I've been buying records via my record collection.
 

2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.

To me 7"s are the old school version of the 12", a classic DJ tool. Not many tracks to search through and a good punchy sound. And apart from that, there have always been quite a few great tracks, which have only been published on 7". Need I say more?!


3) One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

I mixed instrumentals and vocals, soul, funk, disco and jazz. There are a few new releases, because I don't think it's a good idea to only play old or new ones. There are simply to many awesome old tracks and just as many new ones. I also added a few classics, some people might know, as well as some of my current personal favourites, a lot of people might not know.

Crackazat returns to Local Talk with a second single from his album “Rainbow Fantasia”.  This time two of the stand out tracks “Sundial” and “Holding You Close” is getting the remix treatment by Groove Assassin and Waajeed. 

First up is Nick Moss aka Groove Assassin, his take on Sundial is a rousing rhythm of soulful house that comes bumping in. He kept the essence of the original track but also added some lovely keys, it sure hits that sweet spot and you’re hooked until the end.

Vinyl & digital release out in February.

The finest Italo-disco record ever made.

"Take a Chance" is an untouchable example of Italo-disco's sweet-spot—the qualities it possessed over it's American forefather. "Take a Chance" is club-ready, and not in the ostentatious sense that the best of Studio 54's floorfillers were. It is lithe and acidic, bearing as much of a relation to the squelching galactic visions of early techno that would soon be built in Detroit as it does the disco that came first. In its own perhaps primitive way, it bangs, and throbs, it demands to be moved to. In terms of easing the track into a DJ set, "Take a Chance" is structurally perfect, sitting around 120 BPM, ready to be weaponized by everyone across place and time from the hands of Nicky Siano all the way through to Teki Latex.

For whatever reason, in the case of this one track, shooting for the past meant reaching that place dance music so rarely does. The alchemy of something bizarre, ballistic and eternal. Even now, Mr Flagio sounds like the future.
