My first attempt at the tahmilah format.  The base maqam is Hijaz-D, with the solos exploring Nahawand-G, Hijaz-G, Rast-G, Ajam-Bb, Bayati-A, Nikriz-G.  What I'm most happy about this song is how well I think the violin/viola tracks came out (2 of each) for the full group sections.  I'm definitely going to work that sound into more of my songs if possible, instead of my usual synthesizer-generated strings.

Inferno 1

This is from an album of audio recorded from my music live streams on Twitch.  The drums are from a pre-programmed loop but the melody playing is improvised and played live on the stream. These are essentially live recordings, so there's mistakes and rough edges here and there.  This track is a heavy 9 beat Romani rhythm with an Armenian Duduk and Turkish Ney soloing over the top.

Duduk ve Ney Aksak

A song intended for a belly dancer's sword dance.  This is an original piece off my last album, featuring Turkish ney, a kanun voice from my keyboard, frame drum and other percussion plus a little violin thrown in for good measure.  The piece was essentially improvised on the kanun voice and then I went back in and figured out what I played to double it on the ney where necessary.

Swordplay

One of my favorite songs off the new album.  Just a pure instrumental cabaret bellydance piece.  Fretless guitar, ney, Egyptian tabla and riq, violin, synth accordion (I hadn't bought my first real one by this point), and Spanish guitar.  The ending section is in Maqam Rast which contains quarter tones, so it may sound a little odd to some if you're not used to hearing E half-flat and B half-flat.

From Her Toes to Her Head

Not my usual style but it was a lot of fun to try.  I'm a little out of my element when it comes to electronica but I think it still came out the way I wanted it more or less.  Instruments besides keyboard are:  fretless guitar/oud hybrid, ney, darbuka and riq.

Industrial Waist

New single! Featuring guitar, zurna and ney, over western and eastern percussion to a fast rock beat.  The title references the makam that the song is roughly based on, Saba Zamzam.  This song was written for the dance group Tribal Evolution Belly Dance in Hurst, Texas.

I posted a version of this recently with electric violin but decided to re-do it with electric guitar.  It changed the feel of it a bit, but more importantly, vastly improved the pitch!   

Saidi Rock

Each track on the new Belly Dance Practice Music album is written to fulfill a distinct purpose.  One such ability I wanted to make a song for dancing to an accelerating tempo.  And since I also really enjoy the hypnotic music of the zaar dance/ritual I thought it would be a good match to do a slightly longer than usual zaar piece for the practice CD.  The melody instrument is a pair of Turkish sipsi.  As the tempo increased it became more and more fun to play, possibly because I could fit more and more notes into a single breath! (I can't do circular breathing yet)

Moving Faster (Accelerating Zaar)

Ambient trance-like, meditative piece featuring the Armenian duduk.  This is the opening track on my next CD.  I don't have much experience with electronic drums and doing more modern mixes like this so if there's any DJs out there that want to do a mix of this of their own let me know!  I still have the drumless mix that I'll probably release separately after the album is done.

Deep, Full, Open (warmup)

A 9/8 piece in the Turkish rhythm/dance form sometimes called Karshlimar (or a dozen other spelling variations).  Main instruments are the baglama saz, ney, electric bass, percussion and a little bit of violin in the background.  This is a track on my upcoming album "Belly Dance Practice Music, vol. 2"  This is an early mix and may change before the album is released.

The travelers drink their cares away to the sounds of the saloon's lonely piano and weary clarinet.  This is my first attempt at recording my clarinet in any real song.

I wrote this piece about 15 years ago on computer but have never actually performed or recorded it until now.  This was a quick recording using the onboard mics on my recorder.  The sheet music to this piece is available on my NoteFlight account.

Trio for Guitar, Duduk and Ney

Another the.wubmachine.com remix of one of my older songs.  This website automatically remixes your uploaded song, changing it into Dubstep, Electro House, or Drum and Bass.  Some really weird things happening to the melody in this one but I really like it!

The Light Step Tango

I originally recorded the version of this with percussion and guitar for my album "Belly Dance Practice Music."  This remix has the guitar changed out for a trio of Egyptian Rababs, the "fiddle of the Nile," and the overall mix improved.  It is available as a single on iTunes and elsewhere.

Maqsum Noise (Rabab Remix)

Probably not actually a polka.  A song I originally wrote almost 25 years ago in high school, now re-recorded with additional instruments and solos added.  Includes Clarinet, Duduk, Accordion, and Guitar.

Festival Polka (extended mix)

This was a commissioned song for The Rakataka Belly Dance group of Austin, TX. I had a lot of fun putting this one together and proved to be more challenging than usual!

Danza Sol

An accelerating piece in 10/8 time.  A large variety of instruments used in this piece and one of my only songs with a didgeridoo.  Also used are an Indian Punji, Turkish Mey, Egyptian Kawala and a lot of percussion.
