when I was young and the summer came 
I took a ferry out across the sea
Isle of Man passed before the dawn 
I'm going to my mother's home 
at the dock waits my family 
uncle Jimmy carried our bags home .
to a breakfast with baps and all
love was in my mothers home 
the days were much longer then innocent and pure
and the worst i could imagine was the rain
when the summer came.
Many ferries had been and gone 
once again i crossed the sea at the dock 
waits a different man 
many questions he asked of me 
here I stand with my books and my baggage 
I'm asked to state who I am what I am .
this man holds my right of passage 
to my mothers home this foreign land
the days were much longer 
when we were innocent and pure 
and the worst you could imagine was the rain
