In Wordcolour’s own words, "all the way back in January 2021, when the UK was entering its second national lockdown, I set myself the task of trying to write a club track. I wanted to avoid the lockdown temptation to write melancholic, dreamy dance music, and so found myself trying to remember what the club sounded and felt like at a time when raving was a distant memory.

The result, Bluster, continues some of the club experiments I began on my first EP "Tell Me Something", but with a beefed-up heavier sound aimed at slow, chunky techno sets. Like that first record, this track has a sense of humour - constantly cutting in playful bits of vocal and drum detail. Both the title and the artwork imply an undue swagger - a sense of winging it through changeable unpredictable weather conditions: a combination that, for me, sums up the feel of this track as well as the circumstances in which it was made."

Medical Records in close collaboration with Disko Obscura Records presents a special split 7” showcasing 1 new track each by ((PRESSURES)) and Roladex. ((PRESSURES)) hails from New Orleans, LA. They craft their unique futuristic icy tracks on a museum’s worth of analog synths and drum machines. This release follows their first LP on Disko Obscura entitled “Casting Shadows”. Their contribution “The Voices” is a propulsive and dripping with synth textures track featuring vocoded vocals. Roladex (a veteran of Medical Records already with their “Anthems For the Micro-Age” LP) hails from Seattle by way of Texas. Blending girl/boy vocals with catchy pop hooks drenched in a seductive melancholy, Roladex also uses a plethora of vintage gear. “Glass Statuette” is their new track for this 7” and features their signature sound with a bit of an evolution into Moroder-esque cascading arpeggios. Fans of both artists will surely want this in their collection. Features original artwork for the “double A side” on foldover insert style by both artwork that nicely complements the music contained therein. Pressed on high quality transparent yellow vinyl. The midnight hour crept unto thee with hasty caution, revealing 'A Little Night Music: Aural Apparitions from the Geographic North', our third putrid prowl into Halloween-inspired sounds to torment and tantalize throughout the season. For this bout of distinguished dementia, we culled 31 brand new tracks of haunted hysteria conjured by some of the most alluring ambientists and outer auteurs from around the world. 

Spanning over two hours across two cassettes, 'A Little Night Music…’ unfurls itself in a literary horror structure, appearing and disappearing through a stirring Prologue and Epilogue by London-based cellist Oliver Coates, with each side of the cassettes introducing its Chapter with a chilling dirge courtesy of the inscrutable Geographic North House Band.  

What fills the ensuing pages is a mirthful tale concocted by an assembly exploring a realm all at once mournful and fatalist at its core. Entries from Clarice Jensen, Malibu, and the collaboration of Like a Villain and Christina Vantzou bring about endless glacial landscapes accented by pitch-grey skies. Conversely, transmissions from Michael Valentine West, M. Sage, Gregg Kowalsky, and Austrian ambient stalwart Fennesz explore richly textured mines of foreboding glee. 

Suspicion is the word when considering Zelienople’s eerie horse-carriage clip-clop, Nick Malkin’s neon-lit noir-jazz, or Carmen Villain’s gripping dub excursion. Elsewhere Ki Oni, Takagi Masakatsu, and Mary Lattimore (joined here by Paul Sukeena) provide glimmers of warmth amidst a tortured chill. 

Notable is the resurrection of Lotus Plaza and his solemnly hopeful piano composition, while barren hallucinations courtesy of Alex Zhang Hungtai, Ilyas Ahmed, and Danny Paul Grody set the stage for a third act confrontation from Atlantans Fit of Body and Algiers, providing a one-two serving of sensual unrest and cautionary homily.  

With hope and resolve shimmering through the final moments of our journey, know that all proceeds from the digital and cassette editions go directly toward Feminist Women's Health Center, an Atlanta-based nonprofit providing safe, accessible, and compassionate abortion and gynecological care to all those who need it without judgement.

Oliver Coates - "Then There (Epilogue)"

The debut release on Miras stems from co-honchos and long-time residents Atrice. Their musical work is heavily inspired by the uncanny interplay between the tangibility of digital stimulus satiation and authentic real-life encounters in an increasingly disconnected world. Atrice’s compositions have a strong focus on detail, which originates from their academic formation as sound designers. However, the key to the Zurich-based Duo’s production is their playful approach to established genres resulting in emotive soundscapes and energetic amalgamations.
On the three tracks this approach is perfectly mirrored through a hybrid of sultry House, hard-hitting Breaks and neck-bending Gabber. The EP kicks of with the title track "J.A.-Ris", a contagious homage to early Jungle with tight basses and witty Juke inserts. The deep pads enter like a windy thunderstorm on a humid summer day, momentarily taking the light from the sky. It’s followed by the second composition "Give Me", which moves between Breakbeat and House with a futuristic sound design. It penetrates through the darkened clouds and lets the first sunrays shine on the asphalt. A slight smell of Petrichor underlines the dystopian moment.  Lastly "Demorado" enters with many familiar facets, which however are being completely turned on their heard over the course of the piece, reminiscent of a spellbinding whirlwind. It is characterized by Gabber, IDM and Drum'n'Bass influences with cinematic gestures and complex drum structures.
