Nearly two years ago thirty-two musicians from multiple countries recorded Petar Dimov’s orchestral composition Laniakea from their homes and the goodness of their hearts in the midst of lockdown. Joining forces with visual artist Denise Deák, a video that captures the inner workings of the piece was created. The piece is available on all streaming platforms and it will be followed by the release of multiple NFTs with material from the collaboration in the near future. This is the first time audiences could participate in the premiere of a contemporary classical orchestral work through acquiring sections of it, supporting the future of classical music in a direct manner never before possible. All proceeds generated will go to the performers, the visual artist and towards the creation of a platform for future collaborations of such nature, be it remote or in person. Laniakea shares its name with the supercluster of galaxies our Milky Way belongs to. Its musical material was derived from a recurring pattern of 60 digits recently discovered within the last digit of every number constituting the infinitely expanding Fibonacci sequence, making it pre-existent - composed by the universe itself. This pattern of cyclical infinity further explains why we measure time in units of 60, have nearly 360 days in a year, perceive reality in 360 degrees, etc. When translated to music, this pattern reveals 4 phrases with a palindromic structure, which Laniakea utilises on a micro and macro level.

LANIAKEA for orchestra

It is not every day that one wakes up to the news of a “new” piece by Chopin. Dormant for about 200 years, this stormy waltz was unearthed only two days ago. Known for gifting short pieces like this to his friends, Chopin likely crafted these irresistible 24 bars in the spur of the moment. The only sensible response to such news was to extend the spirit of spontaneity and record this lost piece so that moment now finds its way to you. Though a little late, like all things meaningful, it now transcends time and space.
