As Figure begins to move into the next chapter of its label history, label founder Len Faki has teamed up with young French talent Roman Poncet for the 54th release. Poncet's debut on the label dropped last year with the excellent 'Cerate' cutting a clear path for his precisely executed modern techno sound. 

Teaming up in the studio, Faki and Poncet have crafted 'Asua' - a mesmerising display of production skill and a testament to the duo's true understanding of hypnosis. Pushing from the start with its urgent bassline the track builds and morphs its intertwining elements, introducing subtle textures and suggestions of melody - a classic Figure late night ritual. 

Alongside, we have original tracks from both Len Faki and Roman themselves. Faki's thunderous and aptly titled 'Stripped' works his powerhouse percussion along with a textured dub-stab in this straight up club trip. 

Finally with 'Truck' Roman Poncet completes the EP, his rough synth stabs and metallic percussion driving this moody tension builder ever forward.

Partial PR: The 47th release on microcastle welcomes Third Son to the label for his debut EP. As one of electronic music's most creative talents Joseph Thomas Price aka Third Son has carved out a unique sound all his own. The UK artist has shaped his sonic palette with a variety of influence's and compositional studies which began at a young age. The underground has fallen in love with Joseph's contemporary vision, which resonates through his tough beats, rugged grooves, modern melodies and heavy percussion. It's a sound that's led him to releases on Einmusika, Noir, Sincopat, Selador, Stil Vor Talent and Suara. Now making his long awaited microcastle debut Third Son presents his much anticipated 'Climb to the Sun' EP alongside remixes from Darlyn Vlys.

The lone interpretation of 'Climb to the Sun' is provided by Darlyn Vlys who is also making his label debut. The French artist's unique take on house and techno has touched the hearts and minds of electronic music lovers around the world. It's no surprise that Darlyn's character rich sound has been showcased on Get Physical,  Noir, OFF Recordings, Sincopat and Upon.You Records.  His creative vision and stunning design is highly regarded amongst his contemporaries and has once again worked wonders here on 'Climb to the Sun', taking the piece in a dreamier more melodic direction with a gorgeous end of night vibe; as Darlyn describes "I loved that as my debut on microcastle I got to work with Third Son and Haptic, who are two of my favourite producers. The first time I heard the original track I immediately fell in love with the style of the vocal and the way it meshed perfectly with the dark mood of the main theme. As work progressed I explored many different synthesis options, ultimately choosing to preserve the bass line of the original. Over this I jammed layers from my new little baby the "JU-06", which brings that epic, analogue feel, and then I tied them all together with the Diva Plugin. During this process I actually think I was channelling a little bit from that intense vibe of the first M83 album." For the less vocally inclined Darlyn has also provided a dub version.

Third Son - Climb to the Sun ft. Haptic (Darlyn Vlys Remix) [Preview]

This gorgeous and haunting piece of minimal, melodic techno from Matt Dwellers first appeared on Techgnosis Vol. III earlier this year, while the initial plans for this remix-focused single/EP go back to mid-2016.  

Label artists Crennwick and Ken Zo put their own progressive tech-focused spin on the track, while newcomer Doppel and special guest Mila Dietrich dive into more deep and tech house territory.

What is techno? Scientists and philosophers have long since pondered the concept of its musical definition since it burst out of Detroit in the mid-‘80s. Is it that notion of the “ghost in the machine”, of soul from electronics that its inventors elicited? Or is it more the repetitive throb and thump of 4/4 beats and slow-burning momentum that the Berghain generation are proponents of? Croatian producer Petar Dundov’s stunning music manages to marry both ideals in the most explosive of fashions.

To Dundov, “techno is music that precedes movement. It is dance music, solid enough to carry emotions through the dance floor and abstract enough to be a template for ever”. And indeed his breathtaking productions embody this ethos, serving the inherent function of making your body pulse spontaneously while also challenging your brain with its complex melodies and slow-burning, hypnotic progressions. It’s the antidote for anyone who thinks that techno is about senseless, dull looping.

Although maybe the word “techno” doesn’t give enough detail about his style, it’s probably the nearest ballpark to whose principles his music adheres – and he is keen to expand the horizons of what people know and expect of the genre. But it’s that sense of his tracks being alive, forever evolving and expanding and increasing in intensity, which gives his music its unique sound and has seen his work crossover into a myriad of different areas of the global electronic music scene. The last two years have seen his mind-bending single Oasis (played by everyone from Dubfire to Sasha to Ben Klock to Prins Thomas to Timo Maas) take the scene by storm with its intricate, ever-changing melodies, John Digweed snap him up for an epic rework of Alan Fitzpatrick’s Reflections, and Gregor Tresher squeeze a deep, mesmerising remix of his track The Life Wire out of him.

His music shows you that he’s a producer with more than churning out mindless, functional and dispensable drivel on his mind. There’s a philosophy entrenched in his productions that breathes the very spirit of life and dynamism into them: “My ultimate goal as a producer and musician is to bridge the world of inspiration and physical world to the extent where the listener wouldn't be able to distinguish between the two. Music has this unique property to communicate deep emotions that are inherently in all of us. We just forgot how to use them, and my search is an attempt to revive those emotions where we all resonate as one.”

Born in Zagreb in the early ‘70s, his career in dance music stretches back the best part of 20 years, but it’s only in the new millennium that he’s been using his own name for his productions. Over the years he’s graced many of the world’s most prestigious and best-loved techno institutions – including mega-festivals I Love Techno, EXIT, Awakenings and Wire, and cutting-edge clubs like Berghain, Matter (RIP), Womb, Air, Fuse and Space. He counts a longstanding relationship with Belgium’s legendary Music Man label amongst his achievements, an imprint that has also played host to releases by everyone from Jeff Mills (for whose label Tomorrow he created the Sculptures mini-LP) to Green Velvet to Robert Hood, and after completing his acclaimed debut album Escapements in 2008, he’s got the follow-up in the works (for completion by the end 2010).

Petar Dundov makes intelligent electronic music that breaks boundaries, moves feet and twists minds. He is without a doubt one of the most inspiring, original and daring producers in electronica, and with the likes of Sven Väth, Francois K, Laurent Garnier, Adam Beyer, Josh Wink, Guy J, Glimpse, Hernan Cattaneo, Brendan Moeller, and Danny Tenaglia amongst his fans, it would be hard to disagree.
