Everybody loves a disco gram or two, wink wink, but Spanish label DiscoGram is also a sign of a good time. The main label has put out more than 30 juicy tunes but here they launch a new sub-series, again with the in-house production team at the helm. 'Linda' kicks it off with bright, extroverted and slightly camp disco energy and diva vocals. 'Pages' is a slinky strider with a pained vocal bringing the soulful heat and offering a hugely impressive falsetto crescendo. 'Tabaco Y Ron' gets more florid with its Latin flutes and rhythmic vocal coos, then 'Xulipa' ends with swooning strings and a graceful air of disco cool with some recognizable vocal hooks.

We first heard Life on Planets perform live at WMC in 2015 at the Freehand Hotel in Miami. When we heard "Cold Front" we new we wanted to work with it as it has a bubbly bass synth that kicks in with a sinister bass line and all other kinds of cool elements. The "S" in FSQ stands for "style" and we like to apply various musical styles to our remix work. We reached out to Life on Planets and got the session and went to work.

Billy Bass Nelson is one of the founders of Funkadelic (he even coined the term) which got started way back in 1969. 

FSQ had the opportunity to get a session in with Billy Bass in May 2015, and we brought him to Williamsburg to Dave Robertson's (Cameo Culture)'s studio. We pulled up the Life on Planets session since it needed work, and Billy just it took over. The vibes were thick in the little basement room as he laid down bass and multiple tracks of guitars.  

What most people do not realize about Billy Bass Nelson is that he had a productive career after leaving Funkadelic full time in 1972 and is on so many disco funk hits that are played heavily today. 

His work beyond Funkadelic includes productions for The Commodores, The Temptations, Rose Banks (Sly Stone's sister), Jermaine Jackson, Lenny Williams, Alton McLain & Destiny and Smokey Robinson. 

Many of Billy's LA disco sessions were also joined by Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel and Sly Stone himself, not credited, but instead Sly went under the name Jimmy Ford (a joke, the president who took over from Nixon). 

The FSQ Billy Bass Funkadelic dub version of Life on Planets "Cold Front" marks the first time Billy's been heard on a record since his 1995 solo record. During the Billy Bass session on "Cold Front", Billy remarked that LOP vocalist Phil Jenkins sounds a bit like Tyrone Davis. 

Tyrone Davis is a famous northern soul singer, known for his hit "Turn Back the Hands of Time". Ironically, we heard the very same thing with Phil, so we created an alternate remix of "Cold Front" with deep northern soul stylings including lush guitars, organs, melodica, and a driving northern soul beat. FSQ's GKoop played a big part in revising the song for this style which we often produce in (we did a northern soul remix for Nick Monaco in 2014). Violinist Lauren Avery guests here, recording over 25 tracks of strings to give the remix a fully orchestrated sound that you hear on many northern soul records.

Portuguese label Discotexas welcomes a superb new act to the family with their fantastic new Memory Tracks EP. That act is Antenna Happy, a Brighton based beat smith with a passion for electronics that is here in all its glory across three top tracks.
Antenna Happy is Nathan Pope, someone who has been soaking up house and techno at various parties around the country since his teens. After a break to working on acting and even stand up, Pope returned to the fray in 2014 and since then has put out essential EPs on labels like Tenth Circle, Reinhardt and his own Antenna Happy.
The ever-lasting build of ‘Memory Track’ kicks off the EP with a profound sense of emotion. It is mental, deep and dark but it doesn’t lack any groove and it stands out as a phenomenal party starter. As far as libidinous and inviting house grooves go, they come no better.
The brilliant ‘Brute Harmony’ is the heavy heart of the EP. This is how Nathan Pope sees the darkest side of dance music; a hallucinogenic excursion that glues techno and disco into some dramatic, synth-driven narcotic sound that will have ‘floors in raptures.
Last but not least, ‘Where Space Is’ provides some serenity and relief. It keeps the trippy muscle of Antenna Happy going, but with a softer mood and a more subtle progressive layering of synth elements, topped with a child's voice that gives it a final touch of sweetness. It’s a perfectly dreamy way to round out a varied EP.
Across all three track here, Antenna Happy showcases a real breadth and depth of style that makes this another standout EP for artist and label.
