When I've bought my SP1200 some years ago, I've spent the following couple of weeks far away, just hammering out beats in order to learn the machine. I had been searching for that machine (the SP1200) for so long, I couldn't be bothered with manuals and technicalities (although I've read the surprisingly funny manual prior to the purchase). So, when I've finally received my ISLA Instruments S2400, I felt the same or at least a similar urge.. learning the machine by making beats. Up until then I've watched the tutorials and many of the beta testers' videos. But that stopped when I had the machine in my hands.
I've received the unit one day before Christmas, so I took it with me to my parents'. I've recorded samples from vinyl to my computer beforehand. I've sketched all these beats during the holiday break and worked some more on them in the weeks that followed.
All samples have been transferred via SD card and not recorded into the unit.
I've attempted to test at least one new function per beat, but I've learned quickly that I'm barely scratching the surface of its potential. It is a great, fun machine, producing an imo warm, punchy sound.. but hey! I'll let you be the judge!
