This song I wrote years ago on an EP called "Re-Do" with some very shoddy equipment. It was a decent pop song though and never got its due. I carried it all the way to college where I performed it in a songwriting ensemble and people in the department had it stuck in their heads for a while. Since it received that reaction I felt I had to make a new "official" rendition.

This song is about having such surreal and intimate moments in one's life, that it feels like a movie. But once you become aware of that concept, it immediately becomes "meta." Originally inspired by the Scream movies and how "meta" they can be. This is also probably the best produced song I've every created. Also also, it's a pop song in 15/8 (according to my drummer friend).

This song addresses toting the line between adulthood hardships or mental health in general with the laissez faire ways of childhood. We often go back to those kid/teenage experiences as a coping mechanism. I bring up all sorts of things that indicated my mental decline, but then interrupt myself with getting cream sodas at the store. Also, "rocket blind into that dark" is some line I remember hearing while watching Twin Peaks, which if we are gonna talk about young adult heart-brain-ache, that's the show.

This is the weird inner deliberation one has going from being with someone, breaking up, and going back. It involves the forgiving process and immense introspection. Also if there's any genre fitting for this topic, it's probably emo trap.

When someone commits suicide, it's sad no matter what. Even if you barely knew the person. There was a person I met at a party once and we had a pretty pleasant interaction. I heard that they passed away in that manner, and got absolutely infuriated. Then I tried to reason why I was so upset about someone I barely knew: was it the principle or their potential? No matter what it was, these song is essentially me raging and advocating for empathy, and suicide never the answer.

I'm not very outwards when it comes to politics or anything of that nature. There's so much pessimism, it makes me sad. I'm naturally quite passive with ideals. But with all of the unrest recently, one doesn't need a whole lot of experience to see how fucked the nation is.
My heart goes out to anyone affected by all this, which really is everyone: blacks, whites, lgbtq+, the protestors, the law, whatever - I sympathize with the world. We all can learn a tremendous amount from these times and we can do things to help. Music is my voice, that's why I wrote this song in response, but I'm also donating and just trying to be the best person I can be and so can you.
To elaborate on the title, I believe in strong titles, "everything in moderation" is a mantra by dad would say often when I was younger and I've taken it to heart over the years. It has two sides to the coin. It's a relatively optimistic outlook hoping there's inherent good and control in the world. It's a great mental practice, but practically, it does jack shit. Unfortunately, moderation doesn't cut it, especially since it doesn't truly exist. It's just a phrase to help us get by and pretend things aren't bad. Welp, they are.
Despite that though, we can still hope and embrace moderation on a universal scale: love each other, yearn to understand everything and help people whilst upholding your own individuality.
Just as our lives our cyclical, the earth is too, ergo this dark age. Psychic plagues have riddled this world forever and that goes for this pandemic and this racism. We have dark ages too: perhaps angst-ridden teenage adolescence or the fragility and resignation of being in one's elder years. But just as joyous events like birth occur, there are worldwide golden ages. We often distance ourselves from the planet, but it's cathartic to envision our lives and the planet coalescing. This shit's important.
