This song was originally written as an acoustic track with just piano and vocals, and has been through multiple levels of feedback to reach its current stage. I have tried to approach overcoming isolation and depression in a way that is generally relatable, and to build to an optimistic conclusion. It's in Db Major, which is the musical equivalent of someone putting on a happy face.

I do love it when your brain just locks into an idea and it feels effortless to create something.  

I also like it when MY brain does that, too!  And that's what happened with "Quibble"--the latest Interbay track to drop exclusively here on SoundCloud.    

At 114bpm, it grooves instead of sprints.  The palette of sound colors is limited to just a few and the grind of repetition is a feature on this track, not a bug.  There is progression and there is acceleration, as the energy level of the song does built throughout the tracks length.  

And the lyrics construct a narrative that is about storytelling techniques and escaping a seemingly inevitable fate--"the magic of quibbles."  That sure feels like a worthy topic to make an Interbay song about!  

Is there at least a little bit of Rufus Du Sol influence here?  I think so.  Your mileage may vary, of course.  

"Keep your eyes out for those sly quibbles."  

Heading into the weekend, this slightly dark but still worthy of an enthusiastic dance track feels perfectly timed.  Hopefully you'll give this one a listen, a like, a repost and share.  Add it to a groovy dance playlist.  Leave a comment.

In America, thanksgiving means three things.  

First, it is a day where we give thanks for our many blessings.  (Of course, there is irony as it commemorates a day where we were welcomed...and then for the next few hundred years, the people who welcomed us were driven further and further off of what had been their land.  There are many things that Americans aren't especially proud of, but...until recently...we'd always comforted ourselves that we were always trying to get better.)  

Second, it is a day of feasting.  Rather obscene amounts of food is prepared and devoured...often centered around a stuffed turkey, all manners of sides and "fixings", plus a surplus of desserts.  If one has the means to do this meal right, it is truly awe inspiring.  

Third, it is a day for NFL football...but strangely, not a day for WATCHING NFL football.  No, if you've had turkey...or if you're just stuffed to your body's maximum capacity with whatever else was offered you...you WILL fall asleep...and the games scheduled for this day will just run, unwatched...and leading to many odd dreams.  

This isn't a bug, it is a feature.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that can cause drowsiness...and it is found in turkey meat.  

"Tryptophan" is also the name of today's Interbay track here on SoundCloud...a trip hop (or is it trypthop?) ode to this fine American tradition of thanking, eating, and sleeping.  

As I am far away from home (but still with access to the Phantom Laboratories West Mobile Unit), I'm not having a traditional American Thanksgiving.  I had cinnamon roll pop tarts for breakfast, I watched the entire Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions game (Go Pack Go!) and my kid and I have no further plans for the day.  Not even sure what we have available to us for lunch or dinner, as many places are closed for the holiday.  

I'm sure we won't starve, but I do miss the big family Thanksgivings.  What I wouldn't give for some serious carb loading--stuffing, mashed potatoes w/gravy, dinner rolls, creamed corn, sweet potatoes with marshmallows (yes, that IS a thing) and cranberry sauce.  I tended to have ham not turkey, growing up, but my late wife's family insisted that it could ONLY be turkey when they hosted.  

I remember, we used to invite out of town finalists in the Seattle comedy competition I helped run for many years to my in laws' for Thanksgiving...and, for many, it was one of the highlights of their time in our (damp) neck of the woods.  

So, as I look out on the far more pleasant California sun, I am thankful for my memories of good times that feel like they're fading further into the past.  But they're not gone...
