A man stood on a red plain
Swept horizon again and again 
He looked where he had gazed before
The land was bare from roof to floor.

He wondered what he did here now
No track and no direction clear
No houses, no plants around
Just him standing on common ground.

Standing there, alone, aloof
Dreaming of a life that he once knew
Images from a busy eye
Faces and voices passing by.
 
The warmth of old friends
The press of larger ends
Meetings to shape a world
Beatings by the state absurd.

At some point he’d had enough
The play continued very rough
The pressure increasing sharp

Writer of prose and poetry since mid-1960s. Given an acoustic guitar in 1978 by long-suffering sister. Many songs produced that way. More recently, guitar skills all but faded, using GarageBand and Logic Pro to put words to music.
