All vinyl mix recorded at home on two Technic 1200 MK2s and a Xone 22 mixer during self quarantine as a result of the 2020 Covid 19 pandemic. I used a ZOOM recorder to record directly from the mixer, with additional mixdown and mastering done in Ableton 10.

I had carefully packed a bag full of records for my open-to-close gig at Public Records in NYC the weekend before which was canceled due to the pandemic. That weekend was essentially the last weekend of dancing and partying for most of us for a long time. The same needn't apply to music though. 

I was sad that I never got to play these records, all carefully selected and imagined in my mind to soundtrack some meaningful moment on the dancefloor, some I've owned for nearly 20 years of my life but have never played for anyone else but myself since I started to tour more outside of my home city.

Today, on a lark, or perhaps out of boredom, I decided to record myself playing some of the chiller records of my bag. I picked songs that would specifically make someone feel happier, perhaps more at peace. I think the pandemic has infected a lot of us with negative thoughts, anxiety, anger, etc. What better thing to turn to right now than music??

This is a mix i made 2 years ago after over 1 year of compiling obsessively my favorite Kwaito tracks (it got deleted by mistake and couldn't find the audio file anymore). I bought most of the music on Itune or ripped from youtube as sometime it's the easiest option (unless you're ready to pay a lot of monie). Of course with an Itune address in South Africa you can then access to much more of this music. 
I can say Kwaito changed my life. It's the only music that gives me as much energy and positivity and makes me cry at the same time. It's also the best spring music i think :)

Allow yourself the place to ask for help, and to offer it in return. Our scene would not be here were it not for the people before us that helped set it up to continue the legacy [in this context—Midwest Rave]. Be genuine, be kind, be humble—put in work.

He has put out four EPs in the last year that take in jungle updates, battered techno and euphoric bass, and his self-released Existential album in late December came with a more thoughtful and philosophical dimension.

This week's mix is a bumping one that hits the ground running. Impassioned and uplifting house soon gets you locked before you rough ride through dusty breakbeats, twisted acid and percussive work outs. Kinetic juke and footwork styles and more fist pumping, brain frying house are all touched upon throughout this most wide-ranging selection and breathless selection, so strap in!
