it was a much worthwhile trip from the asian side to the european, in the snow on the trains lugging records around :) gratitude to gizli bahce for giving us the space and dance~floor comrades that came notwithstanding the weather for the togetherness.

hamza'nın chicago'da, hakan’ın ise avustralya ve japonya'da yaşamaları, bu süre boyunca plak koleksiyonlarını derinleştirmelerine yardımcı oldu. hamza’nın koleksiyonu dans müziği için plak formunda şehrin/ülkenin en özellerinden biri… hakan ise yakın bir zaman önce uzun süredir ayrı olduğu plak koleksiyonuna tekrar kavuşmuş olmanın heyecanını yaşıyor.

rubsilent and hakan henry's friendship goes back to the 90s. starting with their early encounters in the record stores, to dancing together to their favourite djs from chicago, detroit or wherever in the 00s, to sharing decks in the 10s, an ongoing kinship has been forging in the underground.
both of them lived abroad for several years, hamza in chicago and hakan in australia and japan, which helped them deepen their record collections. while hamza's collection could well be one of the deepest in the city/country in vinyl form for dance music, hakan is inspired to have received his vinyl collection from overseas recently.

This ~100-minute-long mix is textbook Rubsilent, delving into his deep vinyl collection to pull out a wide spectrum of the finest house & techno selections, spanning from the inception of the genres to the present day. Keep notes - all DJ's can learn many things from this seasoned pro of the underground.

"Between a day job work schedule and adapting myself to parenthood in mid-40's, life no longer allows me to spend as much time as I want on the decks at home. As the priorities are straightened I struggle with finding the inspiration and motivation to record a mix to tell a story these days and if the mix wouldn't tell a story I see no point of sharing it with people for being connected. After about 6 months of not recording a mix other than a few local gigs here and there, exchanging some messages with Alec on social media got me inspired to put a session together. Here you may hear that selection of old and new tracks mixed in one go on my home set up. Polito are a group of musicians who have just released a new album called ‘Collapse Phase’. The record is self described as “a meeting of improvised contemporary dance and live improvised techno music, working together to create entrancing performance experiences”.

Drawing upon a broad array of influences the music has a number of multifaceted touch points – Dub, Techno, IDM, House and the spaces in between are all explored through a unique approach driven by live improvisation and collaboration.

Polito is a collaboration between musicians Robert Downie and Finnian Langham, and dancers Arabella Frahn-Starkie and Hillary Goldsmith.

This mixtape showcases their diverse approach to sound design and helps to build a narrative around the group and what their music means.
