we could call this strange pop. it's kind of indie-rock, i suppose. if i remember rightly the chorus is in 7/8. it is available on bandcamp as part of the collection 'chansnon'. i dedicate it to my wife sabine.

the kids are all wrong. somehow this song avoided inclusion on the 2021 bandcamp release 'state of play' which does however contain many marvelous and disturbing songs both political and romantic .

a meditation on medicine which will probably sneak onto the forthcoming double-sized release 'fin de chantier', 2022's vocal opus.

i'm putting this up so j-pop can hear what an SML 'super' alto sounds like. i recorded this as part of the ongoing series of improvisations 'isloated churches' recorded in churches around sussex.

originally written with 'brahma chop' this is a new version of a song never before recorded except in live performance.

give myself away

this is one track from the instrumental release 'with the beatless', available now on bandcamp. the pieces included on 'with the beatless' were made on ableton and feature live instruments as well as programmed material. no drums, drummers, drum-machines or their analogues were used in this production. recorded in the mayenne, france in late 2020.

also available in the duo MESHMASS here, i was singer, lyricist and saxophonist with post-punk unit 'live sex' in the early 1980's. we made an album for hopewell records of new jersey. after 'the beings' i formed 'brahma chop', an alternative rock group who recorded what might have been the last vinyl-only release in the universe. all my bands have had strong roots in improvisation. i started to play guitar and write songs by myself, and then decided to give up and get educated.  i taught, briefly, at sussex university and then returned to music as one half of 'meshmass'. i now play saxophone mostly and am also a member of improvising quartet 'the bare springs'.  i am working on songs again, i do like songs, and i hope to make a good one soon. further material can be found at auralwitness on bandcamp and on soundcloud at 'meshmass' and 'the bare springs'.
