Elegy For Romeo & Juliet

Beth Baker. Beth was one of the loveliest souls I was privileged to call a dear friend. I met her through my wife's work. Later as a result of my emigration to the 'New World' we lost out on each other's company, but we stayed in touch and visited her and her husband as often as we could. Recently she was hospitalised, needed surgery which was unsuccessful, and she died in the hospital. She was only 71. Because of the pandemic restrictions travel to her funeral was out of the question. So here is my heartfelt tribute to this soul we loved for over 35 years.

Everyone Suddenly Burst Out Singing (1976): English poet and writer Siegfried Sassoon was decorated for bravery on the Western Front, and became one of the leading poets of the First World War. Despite his decorations and reputation, in 1917 Sassoon decided to make a stand against the conduct of the war. His poetry both describes the horrors of the trenches, and satirizes what he called the ‘patriotic pretensions’ of those who, in Sassoon's view, were responsible for the national superiority that can fuel war.  He was ultimately confined to a mental hospital for his dissent and it was there that he met fellow poet Wilfred Owen, whose work Sassoon was instrumental in bringing to fame. 
 
The words ‘Everyone suddenly burst out singing” relate Sassoon’s almost religious joy on hearing Welsh soldiers singing and celebrating from the trenches when the Armistice was declared.  The line ‘everyone’s voice suddenly lifted’ suggests a metaphorical transcendence, concluding ultimately with the words “the singing will never be done” which convey an experience that is sublime, timeless and unifying, Composer Peter Willsher so beautifully captures all of this breadth of the human spirit, and the sense of release than singing brings, in his musical setting.

Peter Willsher (b. 1951) is a Canadian composer and conductor who immigrated from his native England in 1986. With the encouragement of his grandmother, an opera singer, Peter began writing before the age of seven. He graduated from Trinity College of Music in London and has played piano, organ, keyboards, clarinet, drums, string bass, and tuba professionally. As a composer, Peter has written in a wide range of formats and settings, from short ballads to complete cantatas, for schools, theatres, choirs and orchestras. He has conducted for more than 35 years in Europe and North America.

               Cp - Connect part , Gp - Guitar part , Coda .
   Correlation and connection of  the  pieces  are composed   in   sequence  :            Cp+Mp+Mp+Ap+Ap+Mp+Mp+Ap+Ap+Gp+Mp+Mp+Ap+Ap+Gp+Ap+Ap+Coda .

         2.      Description  from  artistic  standpoint .
  
         A  work of  music  “ Reflection “  has  bright – expressed  artistic  image  and  deep  thought  at  its  form  and content  that goes  together  like  a complete  picture .
         Emotional  thinking   runs  in light  and  unforced character  with  presence 
         of  firm  image  of   the beauty  and  its  eternity  in the nature .

3.	Description  from  standpoint  of  physiology .

This music does  not fatigue  the  listener  and  interfere  with  his  meditation .  Listener’s  psycho – emotional  status  has  lasting  phase  of  attention and  will  to listen  this  music . While  perception  the  music  the  brain  creates  a special   feeling  that  has  the favorable   influence  upon  psyche  and  as a whole  it gives  positive  therapeutic  effect .

4.	   Practical  use  of  music  “ Reflection “ .

               As a film  music . As a study  material  for  Children  Music  School  and
Music College.  Mp - as  a ringtone  for  cell – phones . Direct  use  in  clinics  for     music – therapeutic  treatment.  And  also  in other spheres  of  human  life – activity .
