a group of girls got together 
to plan a surprise event
a prom-style dance with all their dads 
and here is how it went

the dads got wind of the caper
and decided to have some fun
“they’re playing at playing with love”
they said “let’s show them how it’s done”

the father-daughter festivities 
commenced in a dim-lit hall
above the happy dancers’ heads
slowly turned a mirrored ball

as if the stars of heaven
had tumbled down from their pads
mirrored darts of light raced around 
the dancing daughters and dads

then suddenly the music stopped 
and standing beneath the ball 
one father took the floor and said
“tonight i proudly speak for all”

“no one will ever give their love

“although a more compelling force
