IOI (Intuition Over Intellect) means so much to me and my relationship with one of my best friends, Alan Zavodsky. Not only did it mark the beginning of our beautiful friendship, but it unlocked something in our production styles. This track represents the moment Alan taught me how to live and create using my intuition over intellect and “just always press record!”

I will forever be grateful for this track, Z. I hope those that listen to the track and collect it can feel how free we felt that day we chose to live by our intuition.

Pete Rango & Alan Zavodsky - IOI

This song came at a crossroad for both Elle and myself. We were both going through similar situations and emotions without knowing it. We were inspired to write this song but the truth is..we weren’t. This song came to us in a wave of emotion at a time that we were feeling completely broken down by life and all that entails it. 

Everything around us was falling to pieces and we did not know how to express ourselves to anyone, let alone ourselves. This song is a representation that even though one may seem fine on the outside, you never know what someone is dealing with on the inside. We used to try to make everyone happy, pouring until everyone's cup was full but that often left us feeling empty, which over time left us feeling broken. 

This song is a reminder to give yourself some grace and remember it’ll be okay, no matter how hard things may seem. We all have our moments when we feel like breaking, and sometimes what looks like a breakdown could actually be a breakthrough.

This is a track we created a few years ago during my close friend Gabe's birthday at Defiant Studios. Gabe invited a few local Richmond artists, producers, and writers to Defiant to celebrate. During those sessions I met Elle Symone. Cas and I were coming up with idea when Elle walked in the room and she immediately started freestyling to it. We thought she would be perfect for the song so we finished arranging the song and got her in the booth. She did this whole song in one take 0.0 !!!
