On July 11, 2018, my father passed away after battling cancer and the aftermath of treatment multiple times for a decade. Even with everything that was going on with him, his passing was still unexpected, leaving me and my family behind in great disbelief, pain, and sadness. My father was always a great supporter and inspiration when it came to my work as a computer scientist, but especially in later life, he increasingly acknowledged how much he loved my music, too. I therefore simply had to honor his memory with at least one song. 

Today, July 11, 2019, exactly one year after his passing, I'm releasing this song, "Blank Page". I wrote the lyrics a few weeks after his passing,  rewriting for the most part a song that I had already written some time ago, but never really felt that the lyrics were quite right yet. The lyrics describe how unbelievable it is that there are now only blank pages left in the story of his life and how dearly I miss him.

I was extremely fortunate to have struck up a great new friendship with Heather Barber, an incredibly talented singer from Australia, who I could meet up with later in 2018 when I was visiting Australia and record this song together. She understood exactly what it is that I was looking for in a vocal performance, understanding pain and loss herself very well, ensuring that this song became exactly the emotional power ballad that I had hoped it would be.

And so, this is "Blank Page"... My way of saying "I miss you, dad, every day"...

I wrote this song in 2011. It really came from within the core of me, but when it was finished, I had nobody that could sing it. Via clients that came to my studio to record an album, I got in touch with Tamra Hayden, a fantastic Broadway singer. I was extremely grateful that she was open to the idea of recording my song, because she is a brilliant professional singer. A recording session actually came to pass the next year, when I visited New York as part of a business trip, allowing us to record the song while we were together. It was an unforgettable experience that moved me to tears.

In 2013, I released this song for the first time, but at that time, I did not have all the right tools to make a master that sounded the way I really wanted it to. By the time it was 2019, my studio was completely digitally revamped and I could redo the master, making the song sound much more like I always envisioned it.

This is the 2019 remaster version of "The Great Unknown", a song about life itself, about how we all do the best we can to hold our heads up high and face whatever comes next. We close our eyes, take a breath and step into the great unknown.

Back in 2010 I was extremely fortunate to be working with a great Dutch talent, Maaike Mae. Around the same time, I was writing new songs, including a song called "Broken". The song came to me one day as I was sitting behind my keyboard playing the opening riff of this song with a guitar sound. The sad notes made me write a song about heartbreak, about a relationship that has fallen apart and how one of the two lovers is left completely broken and how that person experiences the breakup. Ultimately, I asked my good friend Nic to play the riff on a real guitar and Maaike to sing the vocals, resulting in a great rendition of this song.

Back in 2010, when I first released this song, I didn't have all the sounds that I really wanted to use for this song, so now, almost 10 years later, I wanted to do a re-master of the song with my new all-digital setup. This is the 2019 remaster version of "Broken".

I've always been a fan of The Corrs. I've done a few covers of some of their well-known tracks from when they were really big. It was a sad day for music when they decided to stop for a while because of personal matters, though very understandable, of course. I was overjoyed when they once again returned to release new music! Even though it didn't really catch on anymore as big as it did before, I still very much liked it. The first track they released is "Bring on the Night", which I decided to make a cover of pretty much right away. However, it took me quite a while before I could finish it, but I'm very happy to share it today. Alisa was once again an amazing collaborator and I'm very happy with the way it all turned out!

I am a keyboard and synthesizer musician and producer with my own recording studio in The Netherlands, from where I collaborate with singers from all over the world. When I arrange a song I play each instrument separately. I don't use any loops or grooves but instead I play the keys to create everything from the bassline to the drums to the strings to the piano or whatever sounds I feel the song requires. In this way, each song that I finish has a personal touch in every meaning of the words. Thanks for listening to my music for your support.
