I wrote Armistice on a clear, freezing weekend last January, as a part of Network for New Music’s Caffeinated Composition project. I began with fragments of a gospel tune that I grew up with: “Ain’t Gonna Study War No More (Down By the Riverside).” Whenever I write for two instruments at once, I like to think of them as people engaging in conversation. A violin and cello have plenty in common, but they still disagree from time to time.

Splitting Atom

"Ginsberg Sanctus" for SATB Choir and Soloists is a setting of the poem "Footnote to Howl" by Allen Ginsberg, and was composed by Peter Christian in 2012. It was performed live at West Chester University on Thursday, December 13, 2012 by the following singers: Maggie Kelly, Alyssa Lapp*, Lisa Marciano*, Erin Price, Stephanie Scogna*, Michelle Smith, Maria Boland*, Jen D'Amico, Amanda Jones, Samantha Stiner*, Robert Akers, Christopher Cardinal*, Danny O'Neill, Ethan Stauffer*, Matthew Wolf*, Tom Hamilton*, Matt M., Edward Wilson, and Tyler Propfe* (* indicates a soloist).
