When David Armin-Parcells (aka Lafleur) first opened MotorCity Wine back in 2009, it quickly established itself as a premier underground spot for both house and disco deejays as well as the city’s prolific jazz artists. Fast forward 8 years and the venue is thriving as one of Detroit’s go-to venues, boasting an excessively high quality line up of both house and jazz residents, from Monty Luke and Rick Wilhite, to Norm Talley & Carl Craig. After a 3 year residency at MotorCity Wine, Lafleur tapped in Peter Croce of Rocksteady Disco to make the venue’s mark outside of the city with this debut 12”, highlighting the half house half jazz sound that makes the venue what it is today.

The debut 12” EP kicks off with Andy Compton feat. Celestine’s “Creation”, a soulful yet hard-edged deep house track, driven by a bubbly bassline and Celestine’s passionate harmonized vocals.

After a 3 year residency at MotorCity Wine, Lafleur tapped in Peter Croce of Rocksteady Disco to make the venue’s mark outside of the city with this debut 12”, highlighting the half house half jazz sound that makes the venue great. 

The debut 12” EP kicks off with Andy Compton feat. Celestine’s “Creation”, a soulful yet hard-edged deep house track, driven by a bubbly bassline and Celestine’s passionate harmonized vocals. Peter Croce carries the jazz torch into the A2 track, with an officially licensed blissed out Balearic re-edit of Jean-Luc Ponty’s “Dance Of The Spirits”, a song that has never seen vinyl before. Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller starts the flip with “For You”, a brilliantly atmospheric yet driving afro-tinged deep house number, executed in the way only Alton can. Lafleur caps the release with “Latin Groove”, an electronic jazz cut featuring live musicianship coupled with Lafleur’s keen programming chops. The 12” is housed in a fully custom artwork jacket designed by Blair French.

About a year and a half ago we had the pleasure of introducing you to Blair French and his fantastic debut on Rocksteady Disco, Standing Still Is An Illusion, by far one of our favourite records of 2017. We also had the pleasure of premiering Public Park from his follow-up record earlier this year. Although an already accomplished producer, Standing Still was the first time Blair produced under this alias and was also the first time he produced a dance record. What a debut.

Fast forwarding to today, Standing Still Is An Illusion has gotten the remix treatment, and let us tell you, it is quite the package. Featuring remixes from both Aroop Roy and Topher Horn, another Rocksteady Disco regular, it already sounds like a hit. But, we've got another first for you. Eli, from a duo you may have heard of called Soul Clap, is also on the bill. His debut release as Bamboozle just so happens to be a remix of Blair's debut. When we first heard the news, we thought that there was no way this recipe could be screwed up and boy were we ever right.

Peter Croce is a Detroit based deejay, musician, and producer. His releases have been supported by the likes of Mr. Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Jimpster, The Black Madonna, Dimitri From Paris, Danny Krivit, Jeremy Underground, Simbad, Aroop Roy, Andy Weatherall, Waajeed, Sasha, and more. In addition to releasing on Razor-N-Tape, In Any Case, Kampana, Nite Owl Diner Cool Ranch, and Worldwide FM Awards’ 2017 label of the year On The Corner, he owns and operates Rocksteady Disco and manages MotorCity Wine Recordings. His DJ sets are eclectic and musical, drawing from deep house, jazz funk, disco, techno, balearic, and other global sounds.
