First thing I made with Logic! It's got some nice efficiency and organizational features that make it better that Garageband (As well as simply being more capable). I used Garritan instruments but I am upgrading soon and I will reupload a version with the new libraries for comparison.

One Last Time - Ariana Grande Orchestrated

I have not posted anything in a while because I have been  busy with school. But I really like this song and wanted to get out an orchestral cover I had been dreaming up in my head for a while. Unfortunately, I am still busy, and even with all the sacrifices I made for extra time, I can't finish it by today.

Hopefully (although this is entirely up to my schedule), I'll be able to release the full version in a few weeks.


St. Patrick's Day - John Mayer Cover (Preview)

This is a cover of The Beach Boys' arrangement of Auld Lang Syne, aiming for the more modern a cappella style of Relient K's cover.  I'm going to write a blog post later covering the making of this since it was an interesting experience for me.

Auld Lang Syne

My idea for a movie studio's intro that they would put at the beginning of a movie (i.e. Universal).

I do have music coming! It is just taking a while. But the John Mayer cover album is on its way and a piano album is in the works as well. Plus, this semester is my first composition class where I will be required to write stuff anyways :P

Auld Lang Syne '17

Thank you to guitarist Michael Crisafi and pianist Robin Thompson for performing this! They didn't have very long to practice but they did a great job!

I wrote this piece for a unit in Composition II where we took a look at unconventional notation and extended techniques. The core of this piece is an experiment in extended techniques in which the piano is hit with the pedal down, causing the strings to resonate. The large range and long decay creates a very spacious sort of sound. To me, it sounded like a beach in the morning, when no one is there and the sound of the waves rolling in can be heard from all the way down the shore. I used this idea and sound to guide the composition of the piece.

End of the year, another attempt! I'm pretty proud of how this one turned out. The arrangement was heavily revised (I was previously using a construction made from a list of notes [not sheet music] I found online). It's now much more accurate to RK's version. I also think I'm doing a better job singing as I am able to get good takes relatively quickly. My mixing and mastering skill has also advanced a little bit.

My New Years resolution is to buy a pop filter as you can kinda hear how my sock does not make for a great pop filter. I didn't notice this was a problem until most of the recording was done, at which point I had to try and EQ the pops out and accept it wasn't perfect.

I think at this point, I've done enough of these. Try comparing my first 5 years ago to now (https://soundcloud.com/peterdevita/auld-lang-syne) I remember that took me 3 full days of recording to put together while this time it only took me a couple hours (while using most of my mixing/mastering settings from last year).
