These lies are politics.
How everyone behaves,
The convention nowadays.
But it's not, like the country is deciding,
That our leaders should be guiding,
With a fabricated turn of phrase.

If an elder in a tribe,
Told so many fuckin’ lies
They wouldn’t be seen as wise.
And they wouldn’t be in charge.
But we tolerate a system,
Where five hundred people voted in,
Are suddenly seen as experts,
In defence and health and education.
When there ain’t a soldier, nurse or teacher in amongst them,
Is that really what’s become accepted custom?
If you were a trained professional, I'm sure you wouldn’t want,
Some idiot in charge, uninformed and ignorant.

Cressida vocalised,
The police are politicised,
A shame she didn’t realise,
Before she resigned.
Why didn’t she speak out,
When she was still in the job?
She was the top cop, 
Whose staff we want to do an honest job. 
If a cop can’t tell the truth 
There must be something wrong
Are they not supposed to stop. 
The Criminals and felons?
The evil and dishonest,
Who hurt and lie and use. 
Who’d have thought the highest constable
Was afraid to tell the truth. 

The lies of politics,
Extend from Parliament.
Like twisted evil arms,
They probe and pressure and misrepresent.
Into the world they go,
Offering a way to climb the greasy pole,
Public sector leaders know,
That lies can open doors for them.
They adopt the narrative.
It doesn’t matter if it’s true.
Their staff will understand the move,
Promote the words, follow the cues. 
Enact the policies. 
Work magic with their expertise.
Let’s hope they will not notice,
These unwise, idiotic schemes. 

In offices everywhere.
There are some who read the policy.
Turn it into quality.
While others choose dishonesty.
Artificial skill inflates
Managers who cut and paste.
Integrity? Has no place… 
Here where lies can bloom. 
Conscience will not stop the ones,
steal others’ work,
pretend they’ve done, 
something of worth,
They’ll be the one, 
Rise the ranks
From the scrum.
Fortune comes to those who vest,
A tongue inside the bosses’ bum.
Jump and wince at their behest.
Blag until the job is done.

Push the blame for any fault,
Straight into another’s court.
Sycophancy never tires
In Politics, the trade of liars.
Rise up the lierarchy,
Where polished turds are sold as sparkly
Snake oil merchants sell their brand
To emperors across the land.
Easier to swallow fraud
Than challenge culture that allows
Achievements falsified and flawed
Ethics, morals … all ignored
We cannot fail
We won’t admit 
We’ve made mistakes
Cause that won’t fit
Success must always be espoused 
The egos here are hypocrites.

The final guitar song I wrote before a sabbatical from writing and performing music. When I returned I was focused on electronic synthesis and would not fall back in love with the guitar for over a decade. Ironic considering the title of the song but the lyrics were about a person loved long ago.
