Mixed live, as always.

I was feeling an itch for frenetic dystopian futurism. I also think about some of the energy in the last longer-distance trips and missing artist friends from those journeys, so to find this combination, I mix from Japan to the Philippines to Indonesia, Taipei to LA to yes, Bangkok and Berlin. Those experimental artists compose those fragmentary narratives, with voices real, transformed, and synthetic. I hope that as electronic music evolves, we don't only listen to musical centers, but to the deeper connections we feel between one another. That includes the recent decentralized remix project from Senyawa; my contribution on L_KW is here. All this music is on Bandcamp for the digging and buying.

Abaddon Podcast 179 X Peter Kirn

A series of live jams with the new littleBits Synth Kit, a simple modular system made in collaboration with KORG using magnets to connect modules.

All recorded live with only light edits and no post-processing, directly into an iPad via Sonoma WireWorks' (very nice-sounding) GuitarJack and Sonoma StudioTrack.

In Etudes 1-3, you'll hear some variations on a two-oscillator synth with (MS-20) filter, envelope, and delay. (Etude #3 makes use of the noise source for modulation.)

Etude 4 is an example of a frequency modulation setup.

Etude 5 uses the random oscillator for percussion.

These use the step sequencer, occasionally triggered from the keyboard.

CC-licensed, so please feel free to download and sample! (I'll be sampling them into some songs.) Just send a note if you make something, as I'd love to hear it!

Robert Lippok (raster noton) and Peter Kirn play a live set, on the 4DSOUND spatial audio system during Amsterdam Dance Event, October 2014. 

Working with single-cycle instruments, snippets of sound, and keyboard instruments, we play a collaborative improvisation inspired by the architecture of Arno Brandlhuber.

An exploration of the sounds of space exploration - made here on Earth. ESA's ESTEC facility is where spacecraft are prepared for travel.

Here are sounds recorded of prototypes of ESA's upcoming ExoMars rover, made in the Planetary Robotics Lab. This includes sounds as we would actually hear them (albeit in Earth atmosphere), as the rover prototype tests its wheels and disembarks from the lander mock-up and traverses some simulated Martian gravel.

It also includes some electro-magnetic radiation, converted to audible sound. 

In addition, I've included sounds of the popping of nitrogen valves from the Materials & Electrical Components Laboratory, involved in a materials test.

The microphones used for this recording are specially made by Slovakia's Jonáš Gruska (LOM Label). Audible spectrum recordings are made with Uši; EMF recordings with Elektrosluch.

These were produced in November 2016 as part of a collaboration with the European Space Agency and TEDxESA. They're CC for a reason - we hope you'll remix and reuse them!

Imaski is a new self titled debut-EP of a new project from the Berlin based multimedia artist and producer Peter Kirn. With Imaski he has  set out to explore the eclectic and futuristic side of contemporary dance music and electronic pop. 

The release features the very trippy and spaced out "Sisters" and it's evil twin in shape of a heavy and dark remix provided by fellow Berliner, DJ and producer Jamaica Suk, which we have the honor to premiere today. Producers of hypnotic big room techno, take note!

Intimacy in a Fluid World is an ode to posthuman love and displacement, unfolding in nonlinear, cyclic form. The title borrows from an essay by futurist and transhumanist
Work In Progress Iranian-American F. M. Esfandiary (aka FM-2030 / Fereidoun M. Esfandiar), in his call for new social relations and "mobilia". Solo ambient sounds produce a landscape of unease, fragile unbecomings as metamorphosis to some new possibility.
   
In meticulous, organic sound designs and recordings crafted over a span of several years, the LP ruminates on fragmentary emotions. The album is a self-portrait in alternative states of emotional being in the midst of future crises, interspersed with lyrical episodes and gender-twisted vocals.
