Glasgow-based Jack Howland has a keen ear for good music - with his focus more on a progressive house style, with deep influence from the birthplace of house; Chicago. Expect the acid basslines, piano chords, and more, which catapulted house music to become the global success it is today within this mix.

Jack has supported Scotland’s own Ewan Mcvicar and played a wide variety of venues such as the legendary @Sub Club , Fly Open Air festival & the very venue he supported Ewan in: The Berkley Suite.

Taking inspiration from some of the scenes big players such as Reflex Blue , Guy Contact & Demi Riquisimo, Jack has captivated audiences and been commended for his playing style and tune selection, gaining notoriety amongst rave goers and his peers as a respected selector. Expect much more from him in the future as he delves into his crates and plays for audiences at some of the best venues Scotland has to offer

This week JR takes the show on the road and records part of it from the Tartu film festival in Estonia where he was DJing. He chats about the his experience on the trip, almost not getting in the country and plays some of the music he heard there. Search and Resistance in "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)"
In Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," the striking repetition of "Everybody's looking for something" highlights a universal search for satisfaction, but also highlights the frustration of desires that always seem unattainable. Annie Lennox revealed that the lyrics emerged in a moment of despair and nihilism, which is reflected in the disenchanted worldview presented in the song: sweet dreams are made of expectations and illusions that everyone chases, with no guarantee of fulfillment.
The lines "Some of them want to use you / Some of them want to get used by you / Some of them want to abuse you / Some of them want to be abused" expose the dynamics of power and manipulation in human relationships. They suggest that, in the search for satisfaction, people can either exploit or submit to others. The chorus "Hold your head up, movin' on" serves as advice to preserve dignity and carry on, even in the face of uncertainty and exploitation. The context of the composition, marked by the personal and professional difficulties of the Eurythmics members, reinforces the song's tone of resignation and resilience, which has become a symbol for those facing adversity and needing to continue searching for meaning amidst chaos.

Resident at "Reverb" in Newcastle, early 2000's and more recently, Resident and co-promoter of "Suono". Occasional DJ for the superb Star And Shadow venue, in Newcastle. Happy, on the dancefloor, or providing the music for the dancers!.

Pretty much every mix found on here was done via 2 turntables, occasionally 2 cdj's and lots of cursing when I've been fighting to either get records in or to stay in. Rare is it, that I've used a computer or edited my mixes. I believe in keeping the human touch!!.

On this page you'll hear many of the tunes I grew up with and loved, around the 1990-1991 mark. I wasn't out clubbing at the beginning of the house explosion - I was listening to Deacon Blue, INXS, New Order, Joy Division, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and the type of "pop" that is now, more than likely, Balearic!.

I know it's a cliché, but I like to think that some of the mixes, almost tell a story - whether in the mood they create, or with the songs and lyrics within, that are used. Time, thought and a bit of effort have gone into them, so I hope you enjoy them and if you do, please feel free to share with friends - either by pointing them in the direction of my page, or downloading and putting onto disc and listening to, over and over again...x
