""Come By The River" and "Embryo" have a common denominator at their very basis - that is love, in its purest forms. In CBTR we tell a momentary love story between two people who stumble upon each other by the river and spend the afternoon diving into one another, just to separate and never meet again, but leave this beautiful mark in the form of a memory that defies time and space. In "Embryo" we look at love from a different perspective, the mother's. The type of love that has the power to defeat all insecurities, fears and teach/ask the most important questions.

Fresh from releases on Artikal Music, Navy Cut, Modern Hypnosis, and Green King Cuts, Melbourne-based badman Alex Dickson AKA Pugilist delivers a study in contrast for ZamZam 66, with two choice cuts, “Roll Off” and “Hemisphere.”  

A-Side “Roll Off” calls all dancers to the floor with a massive dubwise take on dark garage, often imagined in fever dreams of bass madness but seldom heard in real life.  808 bass propels distorted kicks and slapping snares through rifts of reverb & space torn open by the relentless percussion. Call it bruk-techno, 130-jungle, ruffneck-raggabreaks or whatever you like, “Roll Off” will have the floor shocking out and demanding a pull-up.  

A depth charge of dubness, B-side “Hemisphere” goes two miles straight down, as a minimalist cycling bass figure pulls us deeper and deeper, martial drum fills and ricocheting high hats like gaseous bubbles rising from deep-sea vents where no light penetrates.  Lonely stabs and lasers pierce the darkness intermittently, only to be swallowed again by the void. Deep, swaggering dub techno mapping a desolate but beautiful landscape. Sounds from the Well indeed.

When we think of the hybrid sounds of jungle, footwork, drum and bass, and hip-hop, the first place that comes to mind isn't necessarily Ireland. However, some of our favorite recent releases in this realm have come from the Emerald Isle, via one of the most exciting labels in the bass music game; Rua Sound, and we're starting to think maybe we should be paying more attention to the Irish. They simply don't miss, and with a label roster sporting legends like TMSV, Sully, Sam Binga, Lewis James, and more, they have the talent to back it up. 

Today's premiere is from the RUA008 "The General" release from London's Touchy Subject. He's been somewhat quiet over the past year, after a couple big releases including a very well-received EP on Fracture's Astrophonica as well as a freshman release on Rua Sound. We're excited to hear him back with another EP on Rua, and we're proud to present the latest single from the release, "Seek and Find." It's a huge ragga-influenced jungley 170bpm dubwise stomper, so make sure you play this one on a big system. Enjoy, and make sure you follow Touchy Subject and Rua Sound! [PREMIERE] Touchy Subject - Seek And Find

Strange Cravings | Sinners

Trule materialized fully-formed in late 2018 with zero hype or fanfare, and quickly became a buy-on-site label for fans of dubwise garage/tech/bass hybrids. It took us a minute to realize that the label’s boss and primary artist Al Wootton was none other than Deadboy, who’d been making post-2 Step memories for his many devotees with a decade’s worth of melancholy club beasts like “U Cheated” (Well Rounded) and “If U Want Me” (Numbers). We knew we had to have some of his new works for ZamZam, so we couldn’t have been happier when he crafted some sound system tunes just for us, the first label besides Trule to host tracks under his own name. 

“Request” marries a steamrolling bassline to a pummeling 4/4 kick, syncopated percussion, dark skanks, and layer upon layer of haunted reverbs, vocal fragments, and decaying tape delay. While full steppers, the slyly swung drum work never lets you forget his roots in deep garage and house. Special Request!!

“Philo” cranks the tempo up to 140 for for a dub techno stepper that is at once storming and dreamlike, the pounding kick and militant snare fills contrasting starkly with floating pads that oscillate and shimmer, floating up from the dreamlands only to be shot through with lasers and left in fragments of reverberation. Late night B side for the stamina crew.
