New Spectrum is an alias garnering influences from big beat producers The Chemical Brothers, to house musician Thomas Bangalter and all the way to the synth pop band Yazoo. The Irish born, Berlin based producer’s debut under this alias is a two track EP of intense energy, italo basslines, piano and big synthlines. 

‘Secret Highway’  is a blend of synth pop, breaks and a vocal reminiscent of Alison Moyet, all combined to make a fresh take on the edgy sound of the 80’s. ‘Home Vacation’ takes a different approach with sweeping pads, strings and multiple layers of melodies to make up a zestful and fun party track. Convextion was totally timeless in this 1996 release.  And finally I can step up to the plate and deliver something in a tribute which follows the same template.  I first landed in Detroit in 1996 too.  I was a bit late but the city embraced me at Motor Lounge and my monthly residency lasted 48 months.  At the peak of this in 1999 Detroit Metro voted me as Detroit's favorite alien DJ.   Actually #1 Non-Detroit DJ for filling Motor Lounge every first Friday for years.  Something I couldn't believe.

For their first installment, the Chateau Chepere crew brings a diverse EP from ambient house maestra Rai Scott.
Opening the EP is 'Logical Positivism', a deep, driving and cinematic nod to the forest dance floors of the late 90's. On 'Inspired', Rai brings the club in an introspective, melancholic mood. Slower, steady beats with rolling percussions and dreamy pads to shroud the dancers. Picking up the pace is 'Open Your Eyes', a warm, bitter-sweet piece of house from from her own alter ego Serendipity. The club friendly 2021 rework shifts into an early morning vibe, while keeping it deep and moody. Closing out the EP is the title track 'Anahata Nada', a gorgeous, warm piece of ambient for the chill rooms.

On se remet doucement de notre dernière au Term et sans transition, on vous propose aujourd’hui un met délicieux signé Lebowskick.

Chambérien de naissance, lyonnais depuis 2 ans (mais adepte des soirées lyonnaises depuis pas mal de temps), Lebowskick balance bastos sur bastos derrière le booth depuis maintenant 12 ans. Il récupère son premier matos de son cousin raver belge dans les années 90 donc pas étonnant que l’animal se mette à faire tourner des tracks jungle et DnB d’entrée de jeu. Producteur depuis 5 ans, il attaque la MAO en autodidacte en progressant grâce aux conseils avisés de son entourage.

Depuis ses premiers mix dans des apparts de Chambé, le bonhomme a fait du chemin jusqu’à devenir membre de roster de l’incontournable team BMK après une rencontre avec Heimyl il y’a 5 ans lors d’un plateau commun. Au bout de quelques blagues de beaufs et d’échanges de bangers, c’est assez logiquement que Lebowskick rejoint le crew et casse les dancefloors depuis.

Aujourd’hui, il nous propose un set parfait pour le before avec une ambiance bien garage, inspiré tout droit de la grosse pomme et marqué par des gros stabs. Conseil de dégustation digne d’un vrai gars du 73 : accompagner le podcast d’une grosse tartiflette (mais attention, sans crème fraîche).

Sepehr - No More Soul! EP

Beginning with low register glitchy synth stabs, the @posthuman reinterpretation of @sofa-talk's 'Elastic' builds a richly textured soundscape. With clips of running water, white noise manipulation, elongated reverse cymbals and one-shot vocal jabs, a solid kick and the introduction of crashing toms at the 2:30 mark alongside lend proceedings a rolling tech flavour. A remix of two halves, the latter stages witness the introduction of a mellow 303 acid lick that defines the rest of the track, providing the motif for the rest of the elements to coalesce around.  Muted in tone at first, Posthuman roll the resonance of the acid phrase up and down, the 303 becoming increasingly acrid as we progress.

Glasgow duo Ladies As Pimps, a.k.a. LAPS, make their DFA debut with the Who Me? EP. After first meeting each other in an analogue production course run by Green Door Studio several years ago, Lady Two Collars (Golden Teacher) and Sue Zuki (Organs of Love) have now refined their sound and produced one of the most focused and vital club singles to emerge from the Glasgow underground, with their unique and thoroughly danceable fusion of dub, house, and trip-hop. 

“Who Me?” asks the question via a French-English narration, anchored by a hard-edged rhythm that assertively struts between percussive triplets and whizzing frequencies. “Ladybug” gets even more dubbed out, with arrangements that unfurl somewhere between Neneh Cherry, ESG, and early Tricky. “Who Me?” caught the ears of everyone from Ben UFO (who hosted LAPS live at XOYO and on Rinse FM) to Rihanna, who featured their music in her Savage x Fenty show at this year’s NYFW. 

On remix duties, LA producer M. Geddes Gengras appears under his Duppy Gun alias, chopping the vocal track into a pleasantly disorienting remix. Vancouver-based D. Tiffany (1080p, Coastal Haze, Pacific Rhythm) and Melbourne up-and-comer Roza Terenzi collaborate on a stripped-back, high-energy take, while ANY WAYS, a.k.a. Tom Marshallsay (Golden Teacher, General Ludd) rounds out the EP, bringing it back to Glasgow. 

“Who Me?” and “Ladybug” were originally released in July 2017 by MIC Records (London, UK). This EP is a co-release between MIC and DFA. Vinyl 12" coming soon.
