About The EP

Ten years ago, I released "Soon It Will Be Cold Enough" on CD-Rs, biking to the post office a few times a week to send out whatever orders trickled in through the Paypal address I had posted on Myspace. Somehow it reached the ears of iconic Japanese hip-hop producer Nujabes and was released on his label, Hydeout Productions. In addition to giving the album a professional mixdown, Nujabes suggested a new tracklist that omitted two songs, "Maps" and "Father King." As a special nod to the ten year anniversary of my first album and these two lost tracks which are still dear to me and many of my listeners, I'll be releasing a special Maps & Father King EP on November 11th with both tracks remastered and remixed by four different producers. I'm very excited to give new life to these songs in the form of this special release which will be available on vinyl as well as all the usual digital platforms.

A bit of background info about the track for anyone who is interested...
The track is named after the well known mountain Adam's Peak in Sri Lanka, which I visited and climbed earlier this year. When climbing it I recorded a lot of field recordings along the way, which ended up making their way in to this track, therefore it seemed fitting to name the track after it. The artwork for the EP is also formed from a photo I took in this region of Sri Lanka. I guess you could say I was pretty creatively influenced by my trip to this country. : )

"Free" channels inspiration from my grandfather who grew up in the Faroe Islands. He told me stories of the amazing land, how they climbed cliffs to get bird eggs, and would go fishing out at sea. "Free" aims to capture this feeling of adventure and openness in a song. The remix by @marley-carroll does an amazing job at capturing the elements of the original but taking it to a new danceable space. The driving beat, syncopated synthesizers, and fresh vocal chops make for an exciting new listen.

From the remixing artist, "For the "Free" remix, I borrowed a technique from house music in which uptempo songs are pitched down by a few semitones and reworked as slow-motion boogie edits. This process created a new stretched-out feel that inspired me to build a hazy, chilled-out instrumental around the original vocal." - Marley Carroll
