Josh Caffé continues a stellar run of singles on Phantasy with the raw energy of ‘You’, accompanied by an equally propulsive rework from label founder, Erol Alkan.

Produced alongside regular collaborator Quinn Whalley of Paranoid London, who recently turned in a warehouse-primed take on Caffe’s last single ‘Meine Lederjeans’, Caffé’s defiant lyrics ride a high-tempo concoction of vintage drum machines and vampish chords. Dripping in authentic, percussive tension and emotional vulnerability, ‘You’ further speaks to Caffé’s deep schooling in the legacy and potential of house music.

Erol Alkan turns his own intimate knowledge of the genre into a spacious reimagining that strips back Caffé’s vocals, while keeping his demands front-and-center. Burrowing acid lines develop alongside Chicago-indebted drums, always returning to an enormous, irresistible bassline, as instantly effective as anything in Alkan’s celebrated back-catalogue of reworks.
