These are live recordings from a benefit recital so be nice! The two arias are excerpts from Werther. fun culture facts for the day:
 	Werther is a four act French opera based on Goethe’s The Sorrows of Young Werther in which a woman named Charlotte falls in love with a writer Werther.  She wishes for nothing but to marry him, but recalls her promise to her now dead mother to wed her intended, Albert. Out of honor, she rejects Werther, but all the while continues to love him.  She weeps for him in her aria “Va! Laisse couler mes larmes!” and in the Letters aria she realizes that she has ruined both her love’s and her own chances for happiness and they will both always be alone (“seul”).  The opera concludes as Werther  commits suicide with a set of Albert’s pistols, and Charlotte arrives only in time to assure him of her affection as he breathes his last.
