Our Guest Mix series hits #30 today, and with this in mind we are pleased to share a very special mix from legendary DJ, Phat Phil Cooper.
 
Since the 1990s, Phil has been on a journey through DJ culture and electronic music and has travelled the word playing clubs, resorts and festivals in countries including Bali, Croatia, the USA, Singapore, Australia & Brazil. Through his work as a DJ, label manager, curator, record shop owner, event organiser and music consultant, Cooper has remained a central figure in the Balearic music scene.
 
Musically, Cooper has long been celebrated for his diverse approach to music. While naturally at home championing seductive, sun-kissed sounds, Cooper’s roots can be traced back to the dance-floors of legendary Liverpool, UK club Cream, where during the 1990s and early 2000s he was a key resident DJ. Three decades on, Cooper’s club-moving skills remain as sharp as ever, leading some to compare him favourably to Mr Scruff, Harvey and Gilles Peterson.
 
Now residing in Ibiza with regular sunset sessions at La Torre, Phat Phil Cooper remains one of electronic music’s unsung heroes. His label NuNorthern Soul celebrates its 10 year anniversary this year and has released amazing music from the likes of Ilija Rudman, Ron Trent, BJ Smith, Coyote, Private Agenda and has unearthed lost classics in the reissues of Ryo Kawasaki, Bianca and El Turronero.
 
Cooper has provided an absolute gem of a mix spanning 2 hours of sun soaked, genre hopping vibes!

Radio Guesthouse 12 - Mark Broadbent

After compiling and planning in my head for close to a year, I finally sat down to create the 11 Years of Soul Clap Records mix a week before the deadline. It wasn't that I wasn't inspired, it was exactly the opposite, there were just too many song and ideas spinning around in my head to get focused. I knew that the only way that I was going to fit all the music I needed to onto the mix would be using Ableton. So returning to my days of detail oriented cut-n-paste mixes (EFUNK: The Mixtape, DJ Kicks, Fabric) I got deep into the groove of the label that I know inside and out. But even with my intimate knowledge, I was not prepared for all the musical surprises I stumbled onto while splicing these 33 tracks into four distinct musical movements. When the dust had settled and I listened back, I felt like I had truly captured the spirit of the label, and I shed a tear for all the good times and hard times that this music has soundtracked. I couldn't be more proud of all the music included on this mix and I hope that love shines through your speakers and inspires your ears for years to come.

Through his work as a DJ, label manager, curator, record shop owner, event organizer and music consultant, Cooper has remained a central figure in a story that has yet to reach a conclusion.

Musically, Cooper has long been celebrated for his diverse approach to music. While naturally at home championing the seductive, sun-kissed sounds released on the NuNorthern Soul label he founded in 2012 – either in humid outdoor venues around the Globe or via his popular weekly radio shows and regular sessions on Mixcloud – Cooper’s roots can be traced back to the dancefloors of legendary Liverpool club Cream, where during the 1990s and early 2000s he was a key resident DJ. 

Three decades on, Cooper’s club-moving skills remain as sharp as ever, despite his reputation as a storied, laidback and open-minded downtempo selector.
