Sardinia born DJ and producer Mend makes a debut appearance on piston with this three tracker entitled 'Metroplex EP'. Mend has been into music from a very early age and has performed all across Europe at various events. He has released on labels like Deep Plastic Records, Vida Recordings and Clatter Records to name just a few.

Firstly we have the title track, 'Metroplex' which goes straight to the deeper side from the off with a wonderful well rounded kick and percussion combo. A deep bass rises from the depths to captivate the sound and settles in for a hell of a ride. Some quality FX add texture to the sound and very cool synth work sits well alongside the odd chord, sublime stuff!

'After On The Roof' keeps well within the realms of deep house goodness as on the intro a brilliant synth drone sits behind a cool kick and percussion arrangement. The bass soon follows and gives the track a new depth with hypnotic qualities. Subtle FX ease their way through giving the impression of a vocal sample which is very cool indeed. Top notch stuff!

'Watergate' sets the grooves flowing with a very cool intro including some retro styled percussions. The bassline fires up the track to perfection as it cascades through the sound. Cool vocal samples and simple one hit synths in just the right amounts add textures to the sound. Wonderful deep house vibes here, not to be missed.

Mend - Metroplex (Piston Recordings)

Martin Merkel makes his Bonzai Basiks debut and comes with a very respectable reputation. He is a relative newcomer on the production scene but he has made a huge impact among his peers. All this didn't happen by accident as Martin is considered a veteran among DJ's having been a highly sought after booking around the French club scene since early 1990's. It was 2011 before he decided to start his own label (Shelter 45) and begin releasing his own material and ultimately bring in new artists and create a label family. Martin also goes by the monikers Chemical Boy & M Faces. Here we see his two tracker 'Abyss' come to life.

'Abyss' intros with a huge, gritty kick, soon a myriad of percussions come to the fore and bring with them an industrial techno vibe. Curious sounding basses lurk in the depths as the metallic clanks of the percussions carve out a techno groove. The sounds become more intense as the track progresses with an almost distorted quality while the main break takes this sound to limit before slamming right back into full on techno mode, top stuff.

'Give It Up' gets right into the action from the off as a cool chunky kick pounds a beat alongside some very well crafted percussion arrangements. Synthy techno sounds are a big focus throughout as a single note begins to hypnotise. Some brilliantly manipulated sounds start to emerge and this leaves us with a true and powerful slice of techno that will be a feature among many for sure.

Kevin aka Phaxe has gone from a no-name to an international player of the Progressive Trance elite within no time. Dropping his artist name Phaxe in 2007 provokes few, if any, reactions. Only 4 years later he has become a synonym for upper-league party music. Highly acclaimed live sets all around the world, applauded releases, and remixes for some of the scene’s biggest names tell an impressing success story. A story that makes the man from Copenhagen repeatedly being described as a “Progressive Prodigy”.

Looking back, the evolution of Phaxe`s sound is the history of a perfect storm brewing. It starts with excessive party weekends in the late 90s, awakening his interest in electronic music production. First creative steps are taken in front of a Nintendo gaming console. Eventually this new passion leads to a professional audio engineer training in 2006. These 3 stages of Phaxe’s career are still very noticeable today: His music is to-the-floor, playful, and high-quality in terms of sound.

This irresistible mixture is first to be heard in 2007 when a Phaxe track is released on IONO Music. One year later things take off: The title “Swing King” gains euphoric feedback from both party freaks and DJs worldwide. Within no time Phaxe is producing together with artists like Audiomatic, Morten Granau, Vice, Zyce, Flegma and many others. Great compliments are given to him when the still young producer is asked to remix some of his early Progressive Trance idols like Haldolium, Atmos and Symphonix. His long awaited debut album is signed on the prestigious label Iboga.

In addition to his solo activities, Phaxe keeps up a creative dialogue with some other producers - resulting in a great variety of sound and styles. Together with Morten Granau he is known as High & Mighty, delivering deep Progressive House. The name Sinister Silence stands for a mutual project with Dan Hessner and uplifting Progressive Trance. Last but not least there is O.T.B., a collaboration with Martin Daltoft of Vice.

Despite his impressive success story Phaxe always keeps a humorous and friendly attitude which is very noticeable when seeing him on stage. In this very situation his unbroken passion for Progressive Trance rubs off on the audience through vibrant sound waves.
