Bristol good friend, selector and DJ Kayne The Hermit has been killing it over the past few years. While hosting the Hermit show - which featured the very best of European selectors, and travelling around with his record bag, he emerged as one of our favorite digger of the current scene.

A couple of months ago, we asked him to takes part in our Guest Mixes series. As he does, he went into hiding and came back with an hour and a half mix infused with Leftfield and Synth-Pop amongst Dub, Bhangra, Downtempo and much more.

Hope you will enjoy this one, as we did, to close out 2019 and welcome another year (and hopefully decade) of wonderful music.

With his partner Jan Kinčl he co-hosts a monthly club show called Cycle, focusing on all strains of soulful, African American influenced dance music. This week, it is with great pleasure that we can bring you a mixtape selected from an impressive record collection, complied bu dedicated crate digger, and true purveyors of global sounds: La Casa Tropical.

Hailing from Toronto, but spending lots of their of time in Johannesburg where the record label has taken its deep rooted musical influence, La Casa Tropical crew are on a mission to release and reissue the feel good party gems that they have discovered on their African adventure. 

No wonder then, that our past guest REES opened his Bside account with this sunny song from their 2018 reissue of Bayete’s Blue Monday, just a little taste of the amazing music they have discovered in South Africa :

Their quest has allowed them to share some amazing music with their followers and fellow party goers across Europe and the US. But, today they will be sharing with the world the jewels of their journey from the Bside of their collection.

La Casa Tropical living up to the name with non-stop feel good summer tunes, all the way from the joyful bliss of a deep dubby downtempo variety, to bopping hip-hop beats, soulful lyrics and Caribbean percussions, before moving on up to some energetic rhythms from mother Africa.

They're a diverse music meeting point run by Lukas(@grellluk) & Jan(@jcalfredo93) and they host their Synths of world show every 8 weeks on @gdsfm
