I didn't know what time it was

Mulgrew Miller genius blues solo -live at Deer Head Inn 1999/Doug Weiss bass-Tony Jefferson drums  (especially for young pianists as an textbook example of how to play on a Bb blues. I had met Mulgrew in the early 80s and invited him to several sessions where we played just tunes and once a number of 3 horn charts I had of Blue nOte classics, and he had been in the Messengers at least once when I sat in with Art, but we had not played for a good while when this happened in 1999, as he'd been very busy playing with Tony Williams and his own groups, etc. But since it was close to his home in Easton I got him to do a Quartet hit with me at Deer Head Inn, w Doug Weiss and Tony Jefferson. I recall the amazing feeling of support and possibility from his comping. I threw a sketch of this original blues in front of him and my soprano had a key sticking from the humidity, so I get out before too long and make way for him to construct this solo which I always marvel at for how much ground he covers down home to outerspace and everything in between. The tape ran out quite likely by mercy as I start a second try on tenor, but his solo here is greatness IMHO
