This is a special mix for me - it starts out deep, atmospheric, and emotive, which I feel is an important facet of drum & bass. It’s not always about music for the dancefloor, sometimes it’s about music that touches the depths of our souls. There is a variety of old and new selections in here, as well as one of my recent singles, “Rite”, which was written after a visit to the evocative landscape of Baños, Ecuador. As we go, we get into some rolling, minimal liquid to get us moving a bit more. There’s a brief interlude for my favorite downtempo double - “Cumbia del Olvido” by Nicola Cruz layered with “Go Back To Go Forward” by Calibre - before we level up to the second half of the mix, a tapestry of pure vintage techstep adrenaline. I love the way this era of drum & bass keeps the percussion rolling at all times, focusing on filling the space between beats as opposed to the more wide open kick-snare sound of modern d&b. The mix closes with some fist pumping vibes - I’m not scared of melodies, and you shouldn’t be either.
