Phenomena ushers in the new year with label boss Solid Stone presenting his ‘Veritas’ EP. 2019 proved to be a fruitful campaign for the Canadian artist. His unique take on melodic techno continued to earn support from the underground’s premiere tastemakers in Adriatique, Tale Of Us and Solomun. Now following a remix for Mango Alley to begin 2020, Solid Stone lands back on his comfortable home of Phenomena with a two-track artist showcase. 

In a year that saw the Montreal resident continue to evolve as an artist, 2020 gets underway with a similar sentiment. Following in the footsteps of December’s ‘Lotus’ is the tough yet tranquil ‘Veritas’. Following a DJ friendly intro of muted beats and buzzing electronics comes powerful kicks and percussive flashes. Tastefully trance-like, a solemn arp fades to prominence, creating hopeful moments before growling stabs pierce the air during a placid interlude. As anticipation builds clusters of noise and drums converge, sparking a tasteful re-entry and smooth yet exhilarating conclusion. 

Rounding out the release and sitting as a fiery complement to its predecessor is ‘Sparda’. Beginning with a chunky groove the piece moves with swing heavy momentum as layers of percussion and buzzing synths converge for an effervescent core. A spacey lead motif shifts the narrative further into cosmic territory as the breakdown begins to take shape. Ethereal yet tense, it’s kaleidoscopic slow burn fully saturates your senses before a flurry of drums cues an astral finale. It caps off what is a promising start to the year for Solid Stone who continues to break creative boundaries with this excellent two track offering.

With 'Cacus' we're excited to welcome back Paul Sawyer to ICONYC featuring a couple of fantastic remixes courtesy of Mononoid & Slam Duck who bring us their take on Paul's new single. Paul has developed a universally loved unique style; a dynamic, groovy, deep and hypnotic fusion of genres that perfectly fits in any kind of club or open-air festival. Paul releases have always received high acclaim - with support across the board from the who is who is in the world of electronic music.

Paul who knows a thing or two when it comes to mind blowing productions, delivers an irresistible track that kicks things off nicely with the melancholic vibes setting the tone. He roams effortlessly through progressive inspired melodies, while the sultry chords sit wonderfully on top of the driving percussive foundation. Paul takes it up a notch by adding an extra layer of depth, whilst upping the flow with cleverly programmed drumming and his trademark FX elements, without destroying the essence of the main groove. His work deserves to be branded 'essential' in any sense of the word.

On remix duty we welcome back label all-stars Mononoid after their hugely successful recent releases. Mononoid who are known for their driving and refined sound, keep the ethereal theme of the original alive, as the pulsating bass powers along, before its drum fills and general drive all combine to do the talking. Like something from yesteryear yet sounding totally fresh - This massive touch up takes the energy quantities up a level and increases the drive with stripped back and lucid elements, before the energetic groove creates a blanket of warmth that will put a smile on your face.

The second remix comes courtesy of Slam Duck, who brings a more uplifting edge to 'Cacus'. His rework creates a good feel vibe from the word go, as the atmospheric and driving vibe keeps you moving with warm tinkling sounds, a smooth edge and some nicely effected sounding pieces that keeps building to culminate into a lovely melodic groover. We basically have the formula for a bit of a monumental outing. The sparseness is the key here, as this restrained gem works its magic while it plays away, creating a stunning glow. 

With the talent on offer, Paul Sawyer's 'Cacus' manages to deliver a message of sustained musical relevance in emphatic fashion to warm the soul. Not to be missed! Paul Sawyer's 'Cacus' sees a worldwide release on July 20th, 2020 via all well-known digital content providers. Not to be missed!

I have not been able to recover access to my other account [https://soundcloud.com/ha-kekong] for a couple of years.  I have tried a few times to get back into it but SoundCloud doesn't trust me.  Same phone number, same email addresses, and they still claim that they can't verify my identity.  I created that account about three years ago as a substitute to my regular account which SoundCloud temporarily closed.  They closed it as part of some upgrade procedure in their system, the result of a bug that affected many accounts, about two years ago.  Since SC did not inform its users I didn't know if that was permanent or not, so I created that other account which I can't access.
