Phijos is the catch-all alias of Philippus Johan, who hails from Cape Town, South Africa. Confident in the comically broad music taste he’s developed through initiatives he’s helped set up over the years (including The Other Radio, The Other Records, SWIM and Search Festival), he mashes up club edits, bass, italo, jungle, r’nb, breaks and techno into one very energetic cocktail. Don't worry about the ingredients, worry about the garnish: a sleazy and euphoric wedge of queerness to smack your lips on.

He's performed either as Phijos, Phijosindafield (w/ [kevindafield]) or with The Other DJs at a wide gamut of events and clubs, including SPECTRUM, Modular, Mouth2Mouth Festival, Cape Town Electronic Music Festival, Smalltown Beat Festival, The Death of Glitter and Search Festival. He was the host of two radio shows on The Other Radio and has appeared on mixes for Worldwide FM, The Other Radio, Vinyl Factory, High Hoops, Zarabat FM, Mass and Montez Press Radio.

Phijos, the alias of one Philippus Johan, is one of Cape Town’s brightest and cuntiest cultural connectors. As a DJ, his sets are a genre-defying freefall through italo, techno, R&B, house, bass and beyond. The result is an energetic and audacious musical cocktail that’s not so much about the ingredients but rather the garnish: a sleazy and euphoric wedge of lip-smacking queerness designed to make you boogie and question your sexuality. When he’s not behind decks, @phijosphijos is behind the scenes, sparking creative projects that have become cornerstones of his city’s underground. He’s the comms brain behind Search Festival, the hands that shaped The Other Radio’s airwaves, and the co-conspirator of moments that define Cape Town’s nightlife, including The Death of Glitter and SWIM. He’s charmed the crowd at everything from basement raves to major festivals, and his passion for the decks is matched only by his commitment to creating spaces where music and identity collide in the most beautiful ways. He’s more than a DJ – he’s a Leo.

Myself and Ligrye played back-to-back on The Other Radio for an impromptu guest mix back in 2022! Originally from South Africa, Ligrye has brought his blend of house, techno and bass to Seoul underground staple venues since 2013. His sounds have evolved since to include afrobeats, gqom and ballroom house. If you're ever in Seoul, make sure to check them holding it down at Cakeshop!

Threw it down for Party by Default's show on The Other Radio, Anything Flows, back in 2022! Played back-to-back on the rooftop at Ghost, Cape Town. RIP Ghost! 3 hours of bass, techno, house, jungle, ballroom, all sorts of club bangles. Super cute night, our alias was 2 Tall Drinks!

I like this set, pretty happy with the recording! A nice progression from what I've started playing more of since Dec 2024. More driving house, ravey techno, hard grooves, euphoric garage and some rock and disco edits to tie it together. Thanks to the crew of this party, really transformed EVOL as a space and so easy to work with. Go check out @better-with-you

100% was a night of experimentation between two friends and music lovers [Phijos and Faretrade] exploring the outer bounds of dance music — they finally got to dig into the weirder and cheesier stuff from their collections. Expect everything eclectic, colourful and trashy.

Only part of Phijos's mix got recorded. Unfortunately their B2B set and Faretrade's set got lost in the ether, remembered (I assume) only by the Monday night ravers (an uncharacteristically busy and crazy night).
