Life has become rather busy lately, I want to apologize for not following you as much as I did before. I started working in a local musical school and got few private students. I also performed last week here in Ottawa and going to perform in Montreal next week (Friday 13th, sounds spooky, eh? :) ). If you happen to be in Montreal at that day, drop me a message and I will give you details about my performance.

What else.. Arty got an idea to make videos for the tracks of our 1st album - "Vibrant Universe". Not something fancy, just a home-made video using a cheap camcorder. Here is the first video for the piece called "In the wooden maze":

I've been busy lately transcribing piano pieces from my second piano album "Accidental Etudes". One piece is left to transcribe and I will compile them into a book and publish it on Amazon, hopefully, in May. Some scores I will put on my site for free download. I plan to organize some online event once I release the book and invite you to play my pieces. There will be some prizes :) More details to come later :)

"Passacaille Tourbeuse (from Longeyroux)" from the Suite of Dances no.1, is a solo piano composition structured around a classical passacaglia form, characterized by an obstinate bass over which progressive variations unfold. The work is situated within a modern aesthetic, blending contrapuntal rigor with timbral exploration.

The writing emphasizes minimalist thematic material, centered on a repetitive bass motif that serves as the foundation for a series of variations developing complex harmonic textures and contrasting dynamics. The piece demands advanced piano technique, particularly in pedal control and dynamic management, to convey the depth and ambiguity of sonorities evoking a peatland landscape from Haute Corrèze.

"Passacaille Tourbeuse (du Longeyroux)", issue de la Suite de Danses no.1 est une composition pour piano solo structurée autour d’une forme passacaille classique, caractérisée par une basse obstinée sur laquelle se déploient des variations progressives. L’œuvre s’inscrit dans une esthétique moderne, mêlant rigueur contrapuntique et exploration timbrale.

L’écriture privilégie un matériau thématique minimaliste, articulé autour d’un motif répétitif en basse, qui sert de fondement à une série de variations développant des textures harmoniques complexes et des dynamiques contrastées. La pièce sollicite une technique pianistique avancée, notamment dans le contrôle de la pédale et la gestion des nuances pour rendre la profondeur et l’ambiguïté des sonorités évoquant un paysage tourbeux de la Haute Corrèze.

Kitaro - Wind and Water from "Spiritual Garden"

For Phil, traditional classical piano training was something of a straitjacket. He rebelled from a very young age by teaching himself to improvise and play by ear. Fundamentally gentle by nature - he’s a vegan and life-long meditator - the competitive world of classical piano seemed brutal. Phil plays music simply for the love of it and nothing else matters to him. He’s not interested in definitive interpretations or who-can-play-the-fastest performances: what Phil offers is real musical sense, through delivering rhythm and groove, melody and harmony with depth, clarity and unconventional intelligibility.

Phil plays in a refreshingly unpretentious and accessible way, telling musical stories with vivid, straightforward passion. Being a Yorkshireman, he says it how it is, and music for him is profound solace, catharsis and joy: so this is what he offers. Being extraordinarily fluent in the language of music on the keys, he loves to improvise freely, allowing the music to pour forth spontaneously, from a place of deep body-and-soul consciousness. And he aims to make the music of Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninov, and every piece he plays, come from this place of real transformation and healing.
